3D Printing Production Technician

Full-time, permanent
£27,000–£35,000 per year, depending on experience
Surface Scan is looking for a practical, organised and technically minded person to help run our busy 3D printing production room.
This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys working with software, machinery and new technology. You do not need previous management experience, but you must be confident taking responsibility for your workload, solving problems and keeping production moving.
Previous 3D printing experience would be useful, but it is not essential. We are happy to train the right person.

Surface Scan is a specialist 3D scanning, reverse engineering and 3D printing company based in Ramsgate.
We are a small, fast-moving and productive team working on a wide range of engineering, manufacturing, automotive, product development and creative projects.
Working in a small business is different from working in a large corporate environment. Everyone gets involved, priorities can change quickly and we work closely together to get jobs completed accurately and on time.
The Role
You will take an active role in the day-to-day running of our FDM and SLA 3D printing production room.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and preparing customer files for printing
- Using slicing software to set up FDM and SLA print jobs
- Planning daily production and prioritising deadlines
- Operating and monitoring 3D printers
- Troubleshooting failed prints and technical issues
- Carrying out routine maintenance and minor repairs
- Cleaning, finishing and inspecting completed parts
- Packing and preparing orders for dispatch
- Keeping production records and job statuses up to date
- Managing materials, consumables and spare parts
- Working with management, sales and our design engineer to meet customer requirements
- Helping improve production efficiency, print quality and reliability
About You
We are looking for someone who is:
- Naturally organised and able to manage several jobs at once
- Confident using computers and learning new software
- Interested in technology, machinery and how things work
- Practical and willing to get stuck into all areas of the role
- Calm and methodical when solving problems
- Able to spot errors and pay close attention to detail
- Adaptable when priorities or production requirements change
- Reliable, productive and comfortable taking responsibility
- Happy working as part of a small and dynamic team
You may currently work in manufacturing, production, engineering, IT support, CNC machining, digital fabrication or another technical role. You may also have relevant skills from personal projects or 3D printing as a hobby.
A full UK driving licence and your own transport are essential due to the location of our workshop.
Useful Experience
Experience in any of the following would be helpful:
- FDM or SLA 3D printing
- OrcaSlicer, Bambu Studio, Cura or Formlabs PreForm
- CAD or working with STL and STEP files
- Manufacturing or machine operation
- Equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
- Production planning or stock control
