As part of our continued growth, we are looking for a Yard Operative / Shunter Driver to join our team at our Brandon site.
This is a varied role combining HGV shunting, yard operations, and production support within a busy precast concrete manufacturing facility.
The Role
You will play a key part in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of trucks and trailers within our yard, supporting both production and dispatch operations.
This is a hands-on role that involves not only vehicle shunting but also assisting the production team when required. The successful candidate will be comfortable undertaking physical duties, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and equipment, and must have a good level of physical fitness.
Key Responsibilities
- Shunting and positioning HGVs, trailers, and rigid vehicles within the yard.
- Placing vehicles accurately at loading and unloading bays.
- Physically moving equipment, materials, and products around the site.
- Carrying out daily vehicle safety checks.
- Following site traffic management plans and health & safety procedures.
- Liaising with yard staff, production teams, and transport personnel.
- Assisting the production team with operational activities as required to support business needs.
- Undertaking manual handling duties, including lifting, carrying, and moving materials and equipment safely.
- Keeping the yard area clean, safe, and well organised.
- Reporting defects, hazards, and incidents promptly.
Skills and Experience Required
- Full, clean HGV Licence (Category C essential; Category CE desirable).
- Experience shunting or driving HGVs within a yard, manufacturing, or industrial environment.
- Experience driving a tractor would be advantageous.
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Reliable, safety-focused, and able to work effectively within a team.
- Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake manual handling tasks, including lifting and carrying materials and equipment.
- A willingness to support production activities and general site operations when required.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
