Bakery Technical Assistant

Location: Kendal & Burnside
Hours: Part-time 2 days per week.
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Join Our Team

We are looking for an experienced Bakery Technical Assistant to support our Technical and Quality team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a background in food manufacturing or artisan bakery production who is passionate about quality, food safety, and continuous improvement.

Working closely with the Bakery Manager and Production teams, you will help ensure our products consistently meet the highest standards of quality, safety, legality, and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Support the day-to-day operation of the bakery's Quality Management System.
Carry out quality checks throughout production, including ingredient, process, and finished product inspections.
Assist with food safety and hygiene monitoring, ensuring compliance with HACCP, COSSH, and relevant food legislation.
Maintain and create accurate technical documentation, records, specifications, and traceability systems.
Assist with internal audits, customer audits, and supplier approval processes.
Investigate quality issues and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Monitor product consistency and help drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Support allergen management, labelling compliance, and product verification.
Work collaboratively with production teams to promote a strong food safety and quality culture.
Assist with product shelf-life assessments and quality evaluations where required.

About You

You will have:

Previous experience in a technical or quality role within a bakery or food manufacturing environment.
A good understanding of HACCP principles and food safety management systems.
Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Confidence using Microsoft Office and maintaining technical records.
A proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Desirable

Knowledge of HACCP Food Safety Standards.
Experience with customer specifications and retailer standards.
Understanding of allergen management and food labelling legislation.
