Support Worker – Semi Independent (16–18 Years)

About Believe & Achieve

Believe & Achieve provides Ofsted-regulated Semi Independent Supported Accommodation for young people aged 16–18. We support care leavers, looked after children (LAC) and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC), helping them develop the confidence, practical skills and resilience needed to prepare for adulthood and move towards independence.

This is not a residential care role. In line with the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023, our focus is on empowering young people to become independent through high-quality support, effective key working and positive professional relationships.

We are looking for compassionate, motivated and reliable Support Workers who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in young people's lives.

The Role

As a Support Worker, you will provide practical and emotional support to young people while promoting independence, safeguarding and positive outcomes. You will build trusting relationships, encourage personal development and work closely with external professionals to help each young person achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities

Build positive, professional relationships with young people and act as a positive role model and mentor, supporting them to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
Deliver regular key work sessions and support young people with their individual goals, pathway plans and personal development.
Develop and review support plans, risk assessments and safety plans in partnership with young people, ensuring their views and wishes are considered.
Attend child-focused meetings, reviews and professional meetings relating to young people, working collaboratively with social workers, education providers, health professionals and other agencies.
Complete detailed monthly reports, daily recordings, incident reports and other relevant documentation to monitor young people’s progress and outcomes.
Support young people to access education, employment and training opportunities.
Assist with developing essential independent living skills, including budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning and maintaining their accommodation.
Support young people to attend appointments and access health and other relevant services.
Assist young people with obtaining essential identification documents, including passports, birth certificates and provisional driving licences.
Ensure young people are safeguarded and supported to remain safe, identifying and responding appropriately to any concerns.
Carry out room checks, health and safety checks, fire safety procedures and welfare checks.
Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment by carrying out regular household duties, including cleaning communal areas and ensuring the home remains tidy, hygienic and well maintained.
Encourage and support young people to take responsibility for keeping their bedrooms and shared spaces clean as part of developing independent living skills.
Plan and facilitate activities that promote wellbeing, confidence and independence.
Support young people to establish positive routines, boundaries and expectations within the placement.
Promote positive behaviour and encourage young people to make safe and informed decisions.
Complete tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management to support the effective running of the service.
Participate in team meetings, supervision, training and ongoing professional development.

Essential:

Minimum Level 3 qualification in working with young people, Health and Social Care, Children and Young People, or equivalent.
At least two years' experience supporting vulnerable young people in a residential, supported accommodation, or similar setting.
Experience supporting care leavers, looked after children (LAC) and/or unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC).
Good understanding of safeguarding, professional boundaries and risk management.
Knowledge of the Supported Accommodation (England) Regulations 2023 and Quality Standards (or willingness to complete training).
Enhanced DBS check required, with registration on the DBS Update Service preferred.
Right to work in the UK.
