Full job description

Full Time, Fixed Term - maternity cover - 12 months

We have an exciting opportunity to lead our team who complete the social care needs assessment for the Education Heath and Care planning process.

We are looking for a leader who is focused on the Rights of Children with SEND and can report performance data and drive quality assurance.

You will provide leadership, co-ordination and professional oversight of the statutory social care assessments within the Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) and SEN tribunal processes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

In this role you will be responsible for our established and experienced team, consisting of social care practitioners and a children’s social care assistants.

The role involves direct line management of practitioners, oversight of safeguarding and risk escalation, coordination with education, health and legal partners, and responsibility for a Tribunal budget, ensuring resources are effectively managed and aligned with wider service priorities to achieve positive outcomes for children and families.

You will ensure the delivery of high quality, person centred and legally compliant social care contributions, and for representing the Local Authority’s social care responsibilities and support the continuous professional development of staff through supervision, appraisal and reflective practice.

You will coordinate the Local Authority’s social care responsibilities within SEND Tribunal proceedings, ensuring all activity is legally robust, accurate and delivered within required timescales. This includes the preparation and submission of high quality social care evidence and court statements, informed by statutory assessments, to support clear and defensible Tribunal outcomes.

The role involves close liaison with SEND Tribunal Managers, solicitors and parent carers, alongside responsibility for managing Tribunal outcomes and associated budgetary implications to ensure decisions are implemented effectively and sustainably.

You must ensure safeguarding concerns and risks are consistently identified, managed and escalated through process, using professional judgement to advise on and enable appropriate access to universal, early help, specialist and community based social care services.

Information is shared accurately and proportionately in line with data protection legislation and information sharing protocols, and to escalate issues appropriately through supervision and the scheme of delegation in accordance with safeguarding procedures.

Please note that this role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
