Full job description

Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Chef to oversee food preparation and service within a nursing home environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating nutritious, appealing meals that meet dietary requirements while maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. This role offers an opportunity to combine culinary expertise with compassionate care, ensuring residents enjoy wholesome and satisfying meals in a warm, welcoming setting. Shift times are 07.30 to 18.30, 3 shifts per week.

Duties

Plan, prepare, and cook daily meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and residents’ individual needs
Supervise kitchen staff, providing leadership and guidance to ensure efficient operation
Manage food production processes, including portion control and presentation standards
Oversee food safety protocols to ensure compliance with health regulations and maintain a hygienic kitchen environment
Coordinate with care staff to accommodate special dietary requirements and preferences
Monitor inventory levels and manage stock rotation
Serve meals to residents in a courteous and professional manner, fostering a positive dining experience
Maintain accurate records of food preparation, safety checks, and staff schedules

Requirements

Proven experience in food preparation within a hospitality or healthcare setting, ideally in a nursing home or similar environment
Supervising experience with team management skills to lead the kitchen assistant and carers
Strong knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
Expertise in culinary techniques, food production, cooking, and meal presentation
Previous experience in a Care Home or Nursing Home is desirable
Ability to organise workload efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
Leadership qualities with the ability to motivate team members and foster a collaborative work environment
Excellent communication skills for liaising with care staff and residents’ families as needed
A recognised qualification in catering or culinary arts is preferred but not essential if accompanied by substantial relevant experience

Pay: £14.00 per hour
