IT Apprentice
Overview
This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to begin a career in Information Technology within a global manufacturing organisation. As an IT Apprentice, you will gain practical experience supporting users, IT infrastructure, business systems, and technology projects while working towards a recognised IT qualification.
The role is designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and behaviours required to progress into a future IT Support Technician, IT Co-ordinator, or other IT professional role. The successful candidate will work closely with the IT team and receive mentoring and structured training whilst contributing to the day-to-day operation of IT services across the business.
The position supports the organisation's technology environment, including Microsoft 365, end-user devices, manufacturing systems, networking infrastructure, and IT security processes.
Your Key Responsibilities
User Support & Daily Operations
- Provide first-line IT support to users across office and manufacturing environments.
- Assist with troubleshooting hardware, software, printing, and connectivity issues.
- Support the setup, installation, and configuration of desktop PCs, laptops, mobile devices, and peripherals.
- Assist users with Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
- Log, update, and track incidents and service requests through the IT support process.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets and equipment.
- Assist with basic user training and the creation of support guides and documentation.
Infrastructure & Systems Support
- Learn to support and maintain server and virtualised environments under supervision.
- Assist with software patching and system updates.
- Help monitor network equipment, wireless access points, VPN connectivity, and business systems.
- Support manufacturing technology including barcode scanners, label printers, shop-floor devices, and related equipment.
- Assist with maintaining business-critical systems and services.
- Support physical security technologies such as CCTV and access control systems.
Security & Compliance
- Assist with maintaining IT security standards and best practices.
- Help ensure devices remain updated with approved software and security patches.
- Support backup monitoring and routine maintenance checks.
- Learn about data protection, cybersecurity awareness, and information security processes.
- Report security concerns or system issues promptly to the IT team.
Project Work
- Participate in IT projects, software deployments, hardware rollouts, and technology upgrades.
- Assist with testing new applications, systems, and equipment.
- Support digitalisation and continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Contribute ideas for improving IT services and processes.
Communication & Collaboration
- Work closely with members of the local IT team and Group IT colleagues.
- Communicate professionally with users at all levels of the organisation.
- Escalate technical issues appropriately when additional support is required.
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of support activities and solutions.
- Participate in meetings and projects involving multiple departments.
Health & Safety
- Promote health, safety, and wellbeing throughout the Company.
- Carry out all duties in accordance with Company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Work safely in both office and manufacturing environments.
Development & Learning
- Complete all apprenticeship-related coursework and assessments.
- Attend internal and external training as required.
- Develop knowledge of Microsoft technologies, networking, security, systems administration, and manufacturing IT environments.
- Take ownership of personal development and continuously build technical skills.
Education & Training
Essential
- GCSE Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Passion for Information Technology and technology-related problem solving.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to learn and develop new technical skills.
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable
- A-Level, BTEC, or equivalent qualification in IT, Computing, or a related subject.
- Previous experience building, repairing, or troubleshooting computers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 applications.
- Understanding of computer hardware, networking, or cybersecurity fundamentals.
