Our Engineering client based in Nottingham is looking for a Laser Cutting Supervisor to join their team on permanent basis.
Working hours:
Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:00pm
Pay rate:
£17p/h
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the day-to-day operation of the laser cutting department.
- Lead, motivate and support a team of laser operators and production staff.
- Ensure daily production schedules are achieved safely, efficiently and on time.
- Allocate work and monitor workload across the team.
- Set up and operate laser cutting machinery where required.
- Carry out first-off inspections and ensure products meet customer specifications.
- Monitor quality throughout production and address any issues promptly.
- Minimise downtime by identifying production issues and implementing solutions.
- Work closely with Programming, Production Planning, Quality and Operations to ensure smooth workflow.
- Train, coach and develop members of the team.
- Conduct return to work meetings, probation reviews and day-to-day people management where required.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained within the department.
- Promote and maintain a positive health and safety culture, ensuring all safe working procedures are followed.
- Report machinery issues and liaise with the maintenance team where necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Support recruitment and induction of new employees when required.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Previous experience supervising a laser cutting department or manufacturing team.
- Extensive experience operating industrial laser cutting machinery.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Excellent knowledge of sheet metal fabrication.
- Proven ability to manage workloads and prioritise production requirements.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Quality-focused with excellent attention to detail.
- Good problem-solving ability.
- Computer literate.
Desirable
- Experience with Bystronic, Trumpf, Amada or similar laser machinery.
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.
- Continuous Improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
- Forklift licence (preferred but not essential).
- First Aid qualification (desirable).
