Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead our culinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of food preparation, ensuring exceptional quality and presentation, and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene. Mulberry Cafe at Elton is around 50% of the revenue stream at our Elton Garden Centre, and is therefore an important and significant part of the business. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work alongside the catering manager to develop the trade, inspire team members and customers alike and to develop your own skills. Our on-site Kitchen Garden gives a unique opportunity to use fresh local produce and to give a real point of difference.
Duties
- Lead and supervise the kitchen team, fostering a positive and productive working environment.
- Oversee food production, ensuring dishes meet quality standards and are prepared efficiently.
- Develop innovative menus in collaboration with management, incorporating seasonal ingredients and current culinary trends.
- Manage food safety protocols, ensuring compliance with health and hygiene regulations at all times.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of quality ingredients.
- Monitor stock levels, order supplies as needed, and minimise waste through effective inventory management.
- Train and mentor junior staff, promoting professional development within the team.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area in accordance with health and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Proven supervising experience within a busy kitchen environment, ideally in a restaurant or hospitality setting.
- Extensive food production and culinary experience, demonstrating versatility across various cuisines.
- Strong team management skills with the ability to motivate staff and foster teamwork.
- Proficiency in food preparation, cooking techniques, and presentation skills.
- Solid kitchen experience with a thorough understanding of food safety regulations.
- Leadership qualities with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Previous restaurant experience is highly desirable, along with knowledge of serving procedures.
- A passion for hospitality and delivering outstanding guest experiences is essential.
Mulberry Cafe is Open 7 days a week between the hours of 9am and 5pm, serving Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Teas, as well as a quality Coffee and Cake offering, all in the setting of a Historic Walled Garden.
We are closed Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years day, so there are no split shifts, Christmas and New Year off with no evening working apart from the occasional event.
This is an ideal role for a Chef who still requires family time.
Pay: £32,500.00-£35,750.00 per year
