Our in‑house tool shop designs and builds the tooling that drives our production capability. As we continue to expand, we are looking for a talented and motivated Tool Shop Project Design Engineer to join our team
The Role:
This is a hands‑on, varied engineering role where you will take ownership of the full tooling lifecycle — from initial CAD design through to tool build, commissioning, and handover to production. You will work closely with our Sales & Technical Director, toolmakers, and workshop team to deliver robust, manufacturable tooling that meets customer and production requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design new sheet‑metal mould tooling for the rotational moulding process.
- Produce accurate 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Create drawings and models for sourcing prefabricated or purchased components.
- Project‑manage the tool build process from approved model to finished tool.
- Oversee fabrication, assembly, quality checks, and tool sign‑off.
- Support repairs, improvements, and modifications to existing tooling.
- Design cooling jigs, trimming jigs, and other production fixtures.
- Maintain accurate documentation and update CAD models/drawings as required.
- Ensure adequate stock of materials and workshop consumables.
- Support daily workflow within the tool shop and wider workshop.
About You:
We’re looking for someone who is practical, proactive, and confident working in a manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Strong understanding of design or manufacturing engineering.
- Competent or advanced user of Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings.
- Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal).
- Self‑motivated, organised, and able to manage multiple projects.
Desirable:
- NVQ/HNC/HND or degree in Design Engineering or similar.
- Experience in fabrication, production, or toolmaking environments.
- Experience with SAGE or similar MRP systems.
- Knowledge of health & safety in a factory environment.

What You Will Receive:
- £35,000 - £40,000.00 starting salary, depending on experience
- Working hours of Monday to Friday - 38 hours per week
- 30 days holiday per year increasing with service to 33 days (Includes Bank holidays)
