Full job description

Job Summary

To manage a portfolio of clients and oversee the delivery of high-quality accounting, tax and advisory services within a busy Chartered Accountancy practice. The Accounts Manager will supervise a team of qualified staff, review work, maintain strong client relationships and support the Partners in developing the firm's presence accross Inverness and the wider Highlands.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

Manage a portfolio of sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
Act as a primary point of contact for clients
Review accounts, tax returns and VAT returns prepared by colleagues
Ensure work is completed within deadlines and budgets
Identify opportunities for additional service

Accounts & Tax

Review and finalise statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP and Companies House requirements
Review corporation tax computations and self assessment returns
Oversee VAT compliance including MTD requirements
Provide proactive tax and business planning advice

Team Leadership

Supervise, mentor and support junior and experienced qualified staff
Review working papers and provide constructive feedback
Assist with staff training & development
Assist with the management of workflow within the team

Client Advisory

Provide business advisory support including management accounts, forecasting and cashflow planning
Attend client meetings in support of the partners and independently as required

Person Specification

Essential

Significant experience within a UK accountancy practice
Strong technical knowledge of accounts preparation and review
Experience reviewing corporation tax and personal tax returns
Experience managing a client portfolio
Strong leadership and supervisory skills
Proficient in cloud accounting software (Xero, Quickbooks, Sage)
Excellent communication and organisational skills
ICAS/ACA/ACCA qualified
Experience in business advisory and tax planning

Able to manage competing deadlines
Positive, team-oriented approach
A can-do attitude and a desire to get the job done
