Animal Care Assistant
We are looking for a kind, enthusiastic and genuinely animal-loving person to join our friendly team at our busy and well-regarded boarding kennels and cattery.
This is a hands-on role in a caring environment where the welfare of our animals always comes first. Each day involves cleaning and preparing accommodation, feeding, providing enrichment and exercise, and making sure every animal feels safe, comfortable and well cared for while staying with us.
We are looking for someone who is calm, patient and confident around animals of different temperaments. Reliability is incredibly important to us, as is a warm and professional manner when speaking with our customers — many of whom have trusted us with their pets for years.
The role can be physically demanding and involves working outdoors in all weather, so a strong work ethic and positive attitude are essential. You will need to be happy working both as part of a team and independently when required.
Working Hours
The working day generally runs from 8am to 5pm.
You will work 5 days per week, including rotated weekends and Bank Holidays, so flexibility is important.
Duties include:
- Cleaning and maintaining kennels and cattery accommodation
- Feeding animals according to their individual needs
- Monitoring health and behaviour and reporting any concerns
- Walking, playing with and enriching the animals in our care
- Updating owners and providing friendly, helpful customer service
- Assisting with record keeping and general daily tasks
- Following health and safety procedures to keep everyone safe
What we’re looking for:
- A genuine love of animals and commitment to their welfare
- A reliable, responsible and positive attitude
- Good communication and customer service skills
- Ability to carry out physical tasks and manual handling
- Willingness to work weekends and Bank Holidays
- Previous experience in kennels, catteries or animal care is desirable but not essential — full training will be provided for the right person
Hourly rate will be in line with National Minimum/Living Wage and dependent on experience.
If you feel you would enjoy being part of a supportive, animal-focused team, we would love to hear from you.
**Please apply with your CV and a cover letter telling us a little about yourself and why you would suit the role. Applications without a cover letter will not be considered.**
Pay: £10.85-£13.00 per hour
