JOB TITLE: Apprentice Stonemason

ROLE SUMMARY

Repairs and maintenance across our built environment are key aspects of our day-to-day activities. The role of Apprentice Mason represents an exceptional opportunity for an individual to learn their craft whilst being involved with one of the most prestigious conservation and refurbishment projects currently onsite in the UK. As Floors Castle goes through a once-in-a-lifetime multi-generational repair project, you will undertake your apprenticeship working with HPR Ltd on the Castle project whilst undertaking block release training at the Historic Environment Scotland’s Training Centre in Stirling.
On completion of the Castle repair project you will move to working in our own directly employed dedicated masonry team to complete your apprenticeship.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
As a site-based apprentice, you will learn both on the job and through Historic Environment Scotland’s training centre in Stirling. The formal qualification will be over a 4-year period on a block release basis, completing an SVQ (SCQF Level 6) Modern Apprenticeship in Stonemasonry (Fixer). During this time, you will work alongside and be part of an incredibly talented and skilled team with decades of experience allowing you to hone your skills and gain invaluable experience.
As an adaptable individual, you will work in a variety of situations across the Estate. Primarily you will work on the Castle repair project, but you may also find yourself working in our policy grounds, farms and private rented properties. Whilst working you will learn and gain experience in:
· Cutting stone.
· Dressing and shaping stone.
· Dismantling, repairing and building complex stone structures.
· Mixing, placing and pointing mortar.
· Workplace organisation and planning.
· Workplace health and safety.
· Use of hand and power tools.
HOURS OF WORK
Flexibility is important, but a base working week would be 39 hours comprising:
Monday to Thursday 08:00-16:30 and Friday 08:00-15:30

· You will have a minimum of 4 standard grades at general level or national 4 or 5 (or equivalent) in relevant subjects.

· You should be comfortable working at height.
· You should be comfortable working as part of a team.
