Lakes Speciality Foods (LSF) is a highly successful catering butchery business supplying high quality products to our valued hotel, restaurant and retail customers throughout the Northwest of England. Founded in 2004, we have grown from strength to strength winning awards for the best sausage and bacon in Britain on our way. We specialise in beef, lamb, pork, poultry, game, sausage, bacon, charcuterie and cooked meats. In addition, we supply cheese and diary products through our Cheese Larder, a specialist supplier of cheese and dairy products.
We operate over two sites in the beautiful Lake District towns of Staveley and Ulverston. This role will be located in the South Lakes town of Staveley where we are looking to grow our established production team.
The role is perfect for those who like an early start and early finish as our team starts from 4am and finishes by lunchtime. The business operates six days per week, Mon to Sat so you'll have every Sunday off with a second day off during the week. We also have an early finish on a Saturday. You'll work an average of 37.5 hours per week.
Job Summary:
You'll be working as part of a busy team in the Butchery, preparing and picking products for our customers. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and freshness of the meat products we supply. You will have varied duties in a fast-paced and dynamic food preparation environment such as processing customer orders, recording basic product parameters e.g. weight and sell by dates, picking and packing products and labelling items for delivery. At all times you'll take pride and pleasure in paying excellent attention to detail and ensuring maximum accuracy.
Responsibilities:
- Picking / Packing orders in a chilled/cold environment
- Unloading and loading inbound and outbound delivery vehicles as well as checking products from suppliers
- Carrying joints of meat to the Butcher
- Weighing, packaging and labelling finished products
- Cleaning and general upkeep of the butchery department
- Building good relationships with your colleagues and being an excellent team player
- Maintaining a clean and organised work area, at all times complying with LSF Health & Safety and Food Safety requirements
- Wearing full, provided PPE and adhering to factory standards regarding personal clothing and jewellery
- Working to and achieving targets and job standards set out by the Shift Manager
This role is an entry-level position within the business so full training will be provided. However, relevant experience, preferably in the food or catering industry, will be advantageous
A little about you:
- You'll have meticulous attention to detail and can follow instructions to the letter
- You're an excellent timekeeper and can be relied upon daily. We start early, so you need to be an early bird!
- You're happy to adhere to work instructions and keep to standard operating procedures
- You'll have an understanding of, or be willing to learn the principles and application of Food Safety
- Good reading and writing skills as there is an element of recording accurate information on internal and supply chain traceable paperwork
- You're a team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude
- Keen to learn new skills
- Physically fit (able to stand for long periods and comfortably carry weights of 20-25kg)
