The Role
The Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the company’s integrated management systems and accreditations, ensuring compliance across all operational activities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting a positive health and safety culture throughout the business while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain the company’s ISO certifications:
- ISO 9001 – Quality Management
- ISO 14001 – Environmental Management
- ISO 45001 – Occupational Health & Safety Management
- Maintain and support company accreditations including:
- RISQS
- CHAS
- Constructionline Gold
- Other industry accreditations and compliance schemes
- Conduct regular site audits, inspections, and compliance checks across operational sites
- Produce and review:
- Risk assessments
- Method statements
- Safe systems of work
- Policies and procedures
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented
- Monitor legislative updates and ensure company compliance with current health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Deliver health & safety guidance, support, and training to employees and management
- Support operational teams in maintaining best practice standards
- Drive continuous improvement and implement positive changes across the business
- Assist in preparing for external audits and client compliance requirements
- Promote a positive and engaging safety culture throughout the company
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and update health and safety policies in line with current legislation and best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across all departments to identify potential hazards.
- Lead investigations into accidents or incidents, performing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Prepare detailed reports on safety performance, incidents, and compliance status for management review.
- Coordinate emergency response procedures, including first aid protocols and evacuation plans.
- Organise training sessions for staff on health and safety procedures, including first aid certification when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and standards.
- Foster a proactive safety culture through communication campaigns and employee engagement initiatives.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
- Previous experience in a Health & Safety role
- Experience managing ISO systems and accreditations
- Knowledge of UK health & safety legislation
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable
- Experience within drainage, environmental, construction, rail, or utilities sectors
- Internal or Lead Auditor qualification
- Membership of IOSH or similar professional body

Pay: £40,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
