An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and supportive teams as a Trainee Assistant Physiologist within the Cardio‑Respiratory Department at Queen’s Hospital Burton (QHB) and the Clinical Measurement Department at Royal Derby Hospital (RDH).
This role is ideal for someone with an interest in healthcare science who is keen to develop skills in performing routine diagnostic investigations . Following completion of the required training and competency assessments, you will work as an Assistant Physiologist , undertaking a range of standard diagnostic clinical measurement investigations across various sections of the department.
Services are primarily delivered from QHB and RDH, with additional clinics based at our Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) and at Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital.

This is a varied role offering excellent exposure to different clinical environments, with full training and support provided to help you develop within the service.
You will primarily be involved in recording Electrocardiographs (ECG’s) on a variety of inpatients and outpatients of all ages. As competency progresses the post holder will develop further skills to enable them to perform and assist with other tests carried out within the department.
A significant portion of the post will be based within the Cardio-respiratory Department at Queens hospital at Burton, however, some rotation to our sister sites will also be required. These include Royal Derby Hospital, Sir Robert Peel Community Hospital, Florence Nightingale Community Hospital and Samuel Johnson
This is not a qualified position although you will be expected to study towards the Certificate in Electrocardiography in order to attain competency in ECG recording and basic interpretation.
You must have GCSEs in English, Maths and one Science subject, grade C or above/grades 4-9 or equivalent. Previous experience of working with the general public is essential.
