Job description
Listed below are details of the purpose and general tasks of the job to provide some insight of what is involved. It is advisable to refer to this when submitting your application for the post.
Job Purpose
I am looking for a reliable, friendly and practical Personal Assistant to help me maintain my health, independence and support me with day-to-day living.
Location Norwich, NR2
About Me
I live with multiple genetic and long-term invisible disabilities. As a result, I require support to maintain my current level of functioning and prevent any flares or relapses. I spend a significant amount of time resting and may not always be able to actively direct tasks.
I am therefore looking for someone who is comfortable working independently, uses their initiative and is able to get on with tasks without requiring constant supervision.
The role is based in a calm and quiet home environment, so it is important that the successful applicant is respectful of the need for rest and low-noise surroundings when working.
Job Details
This is a part-time position for 13 hours per week. Days and times can be discussed and agreed with the successful applicant.
About the Role
The role involves a mixture of household support, shopping, errands, organisation and meal preparation. Duties will vary depending on my needs from week to week and will include:
- Weekly food shopping and putting shopping away
Household cleaning, including vacuuming, mopping, dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning
Changing bed linen and assisting with laundry tasks
Taking household rubbish and recycling out
Assisting with organising and decluttering areas of the home
Collection of Prescriptions and posting medical test parcels
Supporting me to access the community
Other practical household tasks that help me maintain my independence
My support needs can fluctuate over time, so the balance of tasks may change from week to week. There may be periods where support is focused primarily on household tasks and errands, and other periods where additional assistance is required depending on my health and circumstances
Food PreparationDue to extensive food intolerances and allergies, most meals need to be prepared from scratch using specific ingredients. I am looking for someone who is confident in the kitchen and happy to follow recipes and dietary requirements. You do not need to be a professional cook, but you should be comfortable preparing simple homemade meals from scratch and batch cooking.
Transport I live in a city-centre flat where parking is not available for day-to-day visits. Applicants should therefore be able to travel to work on foot, by bicycle or by public transport, or otherwise make their own parking arrangements if travelling by car.
The weekly food shop involves walking to and from a nearby supermarket (approximately 0.7 miles each way) and carrying groceries back to the property, so this task will also need to be completed on foot rather than by car.
A full UK driving licence and access to a car would be desirable, as I need support accessing the community on a weekly or fortnightly basis. When travelling with me, my Blue Badge can be used to park outside my property while collecting or dropping me off. However, this parking arrangement is only available when accompanying me and should not be relied upon for day-to-day travel to work.
