You will work closely with our bridal team throughout the full dressmaking process, from initial construction through to final fitting and finishing.
The role may include:
- Making bridal gowns from scratch from patterns and toile stages through to final construction
- Cutting and constructing garments in luxury and delicate fabrics
- Working from patterns and adapting patterns where required
- Building bodices, corsetry and internal structure
- Constructing skirts, sleeves, overlays and detachable elements
- Working with lace, silk, satin, crepe, tulle, organza and other specialist fabrics
- Applying lace, appliqué, trims and hand-finished details
- Hand sewing and couture finishing
- Bridal alterations and fittings
- Taking in and letting out gowns
- Hem alterations and adjusting lengths
- Bust, bodice, strap and sleeve alterations
- Adding bustles, loops, buttons and fastenings
- Problem solving fitting and construction issues
- Pressing and preparing finished gowns for collection
- Ensuring every gown is completed to the Emma Beaumont standard
- Working closely with designers, pattern cutters, fitters and other members of the atelier team
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- An experienced professional dressmaker, seamstress or bridal machinist
- Confident constructing garments from start to finish
- Experienced in bridalwear, couture, occasionwear or luxury garment construction
- Able to read and work confidently from patterns
- Skilled in both machine sewing and hand finishing
- Experienced using industrial sewing machines and professional equipment
- Knowledgeable about garment construction, fit and internal structure
- Extremely precise with exceptional attention to detail
- Confident working with expensive and delicate fabrics
- Able to work independently while also being part of a close-knit team
- Reliable, organised and able to work efficiently to bridal deadlines
- Passionate about producing beautiful, high-quality work
Strong bridal or couture dressmaking experience is highly desirable.
This would suit an experienced bridal dressmaker, sample machinist, couture seamstress or highly skilled alterations specialist who is looking for a creative role where they can be involved in creating gowns from the very beginning through to the bride’s final fitting.
