Full job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated GPhC Registered Pharmacy Technician (Band 4–5 dependent on experience) to join our Specialist Pharmacy Services team, supporting Oncology and Clinical Trials across UHMB.

Based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), you will work across the Clinical Trials facility (Ashton Suite) and the Pharmacy Oncology Office, contributing to a centralised service delivering safe and timely access to chemotherapy and investigational medicinal products (IMPs).

You will support a growing portfolio of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials, working in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and maintaining high standards of accuracy, governance, and documentation.

This role offers the opportunity to develop skills and experience across Oncology, Clinical Trials, Homecare, and Aseptic Services, within a small, highly specialised and supportive team.

Key responsibilities

Assist in the provision of a high-quality chemotherapy service
Work within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines when handling, dispensing, and managing clinical trial medications
Ensure accurate and complete data recording, recognising that precision is essential to patient safety and trial integrity
Support the dispensing, ordering, receipt, and accountability of clinical trial drugs and oncology medicines
Maintain rigorous governance processes, including documentation, audit readiness, and adherence to policies and procedures
Assist senior technicians in training and supervision of technicians, apprentices, and assistants
Promote the safe, timely, and cost-effective use of medicines
Contribute to a high-quality, patient-centred pharmaceutical service for both patients and staff

We operate from three main hospitals -the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal, as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital and GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre.

The RLI and FGH have a range of General Hospital services, with busy Emergency Departments, Critical/Coronary Care units and various Consultant-led services.

WGH provides a range of General Hospital services, together with an Urgent Treatment Centre, that can help with a range of non-life threatening conditions such as broken bones and minor illnesses.

All three main hospitals provide a range of planned care including outpatients, diagnostics, therapies, day case and inpatient surgery. In addition, a range of local outreach services and diagnostics are provided from community facilities across Morecambe Bay.
