Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Development Laboratory Technician to support testing, prototyping, and product development activities within our Lancaster facility.
This role is key to ensuring the efficient operation of the development laboratory, supporting engineers with testing, data generation, and rapid prototyping. The successful candidate will play an active role in delivering new and improved filtration and safety products to market.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, calibrate, and manage laboratory test equipment
- Ensure all equipment is operating safely, accurately, and in line with internal procedures
- Support fault diagnosis, servicing, and continuous improvement of lab capabilities
- Set up and execute laboratory tests and experimental work
- Accurately record and manage test data with full traceability
- Support product development and validation testing programmes
- Operate and maintain 3D printing and laser cutting equipment
- Produce prototypes, fixtures, and development components
- Collaborate with engineers to refine designs based on test outcomes
- Generate clear and professional test reports
- Maintain structured records of all experimental and development work
- Produce department KPI reports
- Assist with sample production and preparation for testing
- Support assembly and build of development products and test rigs
- Provide hands-on technical support to the engineering and development teams
- Contribute to continuous improvement of laboratory processes and methods
- Undertake additional tasks as required to support departmental objectives
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years work experience
- HNC/HND, NVQ, or equivalent in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field (preferred). Relevant practical experience will also be considered
- Experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, or engineering environment
- Strong practical, hands-on technical skills
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to follow test procedures and document results clearly
- Good organisational and time-management skills
- Competent in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Strong problem-solving approach
- Flexible and adaptable to a varied workload
- Effective communicator, able to work across teams
- Committed to quality and continuous improvement
- Familiarity with filtration, airflow, or material testing preferred
- Experience with 3D printing and/or laser cutting technologies
- Understanding of technical drawings and basic CAD concepts
- Experience producing technical reports
- Knowledge of calibration processes and quality standards (e.g. ISO)
- Exposure to PPE, medical device or other highly regulated development environments is desirable
Pay: £28,000.00-£29,000.00 per year
