About the Role
We’re looking for an organised, commercially minded Bookkeeper & Financial Reporting Officer to join our finance team and play an important role in keeping the financial side of our business running smoothly.
We’re a growing, UK business with interests spanning farming, retail, hospitality and events. With a varied operation and a number of different revenue streams, this is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in getting the detail right and wants to understand how finance supports the wider business.
You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day bookkeeping and transaction processing, whilst also supporting the preparation of management accounts, VAT returns and other financial reporting.
Xero is at the heart of our finance function, so you’ll be confident working within Xero and comfortable making the most of its reporting, automation and integrated applications.
This is a hands-on role with plenty of scope to make a difference. You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business, including people who aren’t finance specialists, so being able to explain financial information clearly and practically is just as important as technical accuracy.
What You’ll Be Doing
Day-to-Day Finance & Bookkeeping
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and ensure our digital ledgers remain accurate and up to date.
- Complete regular bank and credit card reconciliations, including matching bank feeds and allocating payments within Xero.
- Process supplier invoices using Xero and integrated applications such as Hubdoc.
- Prepare and manage supplier payment runs.
- Raise and issue customer invoices and maintain accurate accounts receivable records.
- Monitor aged debt and support effective credit control.
- Maintain the Xero fixed asset register and calculate and post monthly depreciation journals.
- Review staff expenses and corporate credit card transactions.
Management Reporting & Month End
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow reporting.
- Complete month-end journals, including prepayments, accruals and accrued/deferred income.
- Investigate discrepancies and ensure financial information is complete, accurate and properly recorded.
- Help provide management with clear, timely financial information to support decision-making.
- Prepare clean trial balances and supporting digital working papers for year-end reporting.
VAT, HMRC & Compliance
- Prepare, review and submit VAT returns through Xero in line with Making Tax Digital (MTD) requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and support ongoing HMRC compliance.
- Work with our external accountants and auditors, where required, providing accurate information and supporting documentation.
Payroll & General Finance Administration
- Administer or support the monthly & weekly payroll process.
- Process payroll journals and workplace pension submissions.
- Provide general finance administration and support as required.
- Help identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting and the use of technology within the finance function.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who is reliable, methodical and commercially aware, with the confidence to take ownership of their work.
You’ll ideally have:
- AAT Level 3 or 4 qualification, or be part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, or have equivalent experience gained within a finance role.
- Strong practical experience using Xero, including its reporting and automation functions.
- Good knowledge of UK bookkeeping, VAT, Making Tax Digital and general HMRC requirements.
- A sound understanding of accounting principles and UK financial reporting.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Experience supporting month-end and management reporting.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- The ability to manage your own workload, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to explain financial information to colleagues who may not have a finance background.
The Person
You’ll be someone who enjoys being hands-on and involved rather than simply processing numbers.
You’ll take ownership, ask questions when something doesn’t look right and have the curiosity to understand the story behind the figures. You’ll be comfortable working across different parts of the business and appreciate that, in a diverse operation like ours, no two days are necessarily the same.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is accurate, dependable and positive, with a genuine interest in helping the business succeed.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to join a business with a genuinely varied operation, where finance has a direct impact across farming, retail, hospitality and events.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Take real ownership of an important finance function.
- Work across a diverse and interesting business.
- Develop your financial reporting and management accounting experience.
- Work closely with senior management and operational teams.
- Help improve processes and systems as the business continues to grow.
- Become an important part of a friendly, collaborative team.

If you’re an experienced bookkeeper or finance professional looking for a role where you can take ownership, add value and see the wider impact of your work, we’d love to hear from you.
