Who We Are
Diamond Industrial Supplies is a fast-growing B2B industrial supplies business based in Falkirk, supplying companies across Central Scotland with PPE, workwear, fasteners, fixings, tools, consumables and site supplies.
We’re an established family business with over 50 years of history, but we’re not standing still. Over the last few years, we’ve grown aggresively, invested in new systems, expanded our team, won significant contracts and continued to build our reputation as one of Scotland’s most ambitious independent industrial suppliers.
We work with businesses that need reliable supply, fast turnaround, good product knowledge and a supplier who actually does what they say they will do. Our customers range from local engineering firms and manufacturers to multi national organisations with regular managed supply requirements.
We already have an external sales team who are strong at visiting customers, building relationships and developing opportunities face to face. We are now creating a new office-based Business Development role to strengthen the very front end of our sales process: identifying new prospects, opening doors, creating conversations and building a proper pipeline of future customers.
This is a new role for us, so the right person will have the chance to make a real impact.
The Role
This is not an order-processing role and it is not a basic call-centre job.
Your main focus will be to generate new business opportunities with companies across Central Scotland that have the potential to spend £20,000+ per year with Diamond Industrial Supplies.
You will be responsible for identifying target companies, contacting decision-makers, qualifying opportunities, booking meetings for our external sales team and helping us build a consistent, structured sales pipeline.
You’ll work closely with our Managing Director, Sales Manager and external sales team. Where an opportunity is worth pursuing, we have the people in place to visit customers, build the relationship and close the deal. Your job is to help make sure we are speaking to the right companies in the first place.
This role would suit someone who enjoys B2B sales, is confident on the phone, organised with follow-up, resilient enough to handle rejection and motivated by creating opportunities from nothing.
Key Responsibilities
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Researching and identifying new target businesses across the UK.
- Contacting prospects by phone, email and LinkedIn to introduce Diamond Industrial Supplies.
- Speaking with purchasing teams, operations managers, warehouse managers, site managers, health and safety managers and business owners.
- Qualifying whether a prospect is a good fit based on spend potential, product requirements, buying process and current supplier situation.
- Booking qualified meetings, calls or site visits for the external sales team.
- Building and maintaining a structured pipeline of prospects in our CRM system.
- Following up consistently with prospects who are not ready to buy immediately.
- Re-engaging dormant or low-spending accounts where there may be growth potential.
- Supporting campaigns around PPE, workwear, managed stores, fasteners, consumables and other key product categories.
- Working with the sales team to target specific sectors, areas and customer types.
- Tracking calls, conversations, follow-ups, opportunities and outcomes properly.
- Helping create a more disciplined, consistent approach to new business development.
Other Duties
As this is a new role, there will also be opportunities to help shape how we approach sales development as a business.
This may include:
- Helping build target account lists.
- Improving call scripts, email templates and prospecting approaches.
- Feeding back what prospects are saying about suppliers, pricing, service levels and buying habits.
- Supporting customer campaigns, promotions and product launches.
- Working with internal account managers to identify cross-sell and upsell opportunities.
- Helping maintain accurate CRM data.
- Attending sales meetings and contributing ideas on how to improve prospecting activity.
- Supporting occasional customer visits, trade events or supplier days where useful.
What We’re Looking For
We’re open-minded on background, but the successful candidate will likely have experience in one or more of the following:
- B2B telesales
- Sales development
- Lead generation
- Internal sales
- Account management
- Recruitment, finance, software, telecoms, trade supplies, industrial supplies or another outbound sales environment
You do not need to come from the industrial supplies industry, although experience in PPE, workwear, tools, fasteners, engineering supplies, construction supplies or trade distribution would be an advantage.
What matters more is your ability to open conversations, ask good questions and follow up properly.
What Would Make You Successful
You’ll be a strong fit for this role if you are:
- Confident speaking to business customers on the phone.
- Comfortable making outbound calls and starting conversations with people who do not know us yet.
- Organised, structured and good at following up.
- Resilient enough to handle rejection without taking it personally.
- Curious and able to ask good questions rather than just reading from a script.
- Commercially aware and able to spot whether an opportunity is worth pursuing.
- Motivated by targets, progress and creating results.
- Professional, friendly and able to represent the business well.
- Comfortable using CRM systems, email, LinkedIn and basic Microsoft Office tools.
- Someone who wants to grow with a business rather than just do the minimum.
The ideal person will not simply “make calls.” They will help us build a proper new business engine.
What You’ll Be Measured On
We believe in clear expectations. Success in this role will be measured through a mixture of activity, quality and results, including:
- Number of quality outbound calls and prospecting actions.
- Number of qualified opportunities created.
- Number of meetings or site visits booked.
- Quality of CRM notes and follow-up activity.
- Pipeline value generated.
- New accounts opened.
- Sales and gross profit generated from opportunities you helped create.
We are not looking for someone to chase meaningless call numbers. We want someone who can create genuine commercial opportunities.
What We Offer
- Competitive basic salary.
- Bonus / commission linked to qualified opportunities and sales outcomes.
- Monday to Friday working pattern.
- Support from an experienced Managing Director, Sales Manager and external sales team.
- A growing business where your work will be noticed.
- A chance to help build a new function from the ground up.
- Training on our products, systems, customers and sales process.
- Genuine long-term progression as the business continues to grow.
- Friendly, ambitious and supportive team environment.

We are growing, modernising and building something ambitious. We have the customer base, product range, systems and field sales support in place. Now we want to become much more proactive and structured in how we find new customers.
