We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and highly motivated candidate to join our Level 4 Digital Apprenticeship Programme at Leeds City Council. This role will assist with the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of digital systems and services.
As a Level 4 Apprentice – Digital (AI & Automation Practitioner) you will gain hands-on experience and training in various aspects of IT support and development, contributing to the efficient operation of the organisation’s digital infrastructure.
This opportunity is part of our IT Talent Management Programme offering new routes into digital careers at the council.

About you
As a Level 4 apprentice, you will hold a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4 (A*-C) and one of the following:

A-Level in computer science/ maths/ applied sciences.
- NVQ/SVQ Level 3, BTEC National or related Level 3 Apprenticeship.
Equivalent IT, computing, statistics or engineering certification.

About the role
As a Level 4 Apprentice - Digital (AI & Automation Practitioner) you will receive firsthand digital experience in a real-world setting within the local government sector.
You’ll join our dedicated in house Power Platform Team working with Microsoft low code tools, within the council’s Integrated Digital Services team. These are challenging but exciting times for local government and our in-house digital experts support staff who deliver online services for residents, schools and other government agencies. The team delivers applications and automations in an agile and iterative way. With a wide range of specialist roles and a strong focus on rapid delivery and incremental value, this apprenticeship offers a great foundation for a rewarding career in AI, automation and application development.
You will work with specific teams and projects, gaining exposure to different aspects of digital transformation. The role will include development, mentorship, training and project work experience that will have a significant impact on local government operations and public services.
You will work on a day to day basis with a small team on a variety of applications and automation using Microsoft’s Power Platform. This is a great opportunity to work face to face with other internal Leeds City Council staff
As well as on-the-job learning you will receive training from the apprenticeship provider and course modules include responsible AI and governance, opportunity identification and business improvement, AI and automation concepts, solution design and user needs, implementation, testing and assurance and adoption and change. There may be opportunity to gain extra professional certifications on top of your qualification.
Please note: Hybrid working is available but successful candidates will be expected to spend at least three days per week in the Leeds office for the first six months of the contract. Working patterns and locations will then be agreed locally with line managers.

Job Description
Job Purpose - responsible for supporting the implementation, development and maintenance of digital systems and services within Leeds City Council. The role provides an opportunity to develop skills in a digital service and contribute to enhancing the council's online presence, ensuring that digital tools and platforms are secure and user-friendly. All apprentices are enrolled in a Level 4 Digital Apprenticeship.
Programme Structure - the programme is designed to provide comprehensive training and practical experience over the duration of the apprenticeship. Candidates will work with specific teams and projects, gaining exposure to different aspects of digital transformation within their chosen area. Key components of the programme include:

Candidates will work in the key teams related to their selected apprenticeship such as data analysis, cyber security, software development/testing and DevOps.
- Each candidate will be paired with a senior mentor who will provide guidance, support, and career development advice.
- Comprehensive training sessions, workshops, and seminars will be provided to enhance technical skills and industry knowledge.
- Apprentices may have the opportunity to contribute to key digital projects that will have a significant impact on local government operations and public services.
Responsibilities

Assist in the development and maintenance of digital platforms and systems.
- Provide technical support to colleagues and users of digital services.
- Help maintain network security, ensuring data protection and compliance with LCC policies.
- Participate in digital projects, contributing to planning, testing, and implementation phases.
- Maintain accurate records of IT assets, user requests, and incidents.
- Compliance with data protection and privacy regulations.
- Collaborate with other teams and services to support digital initiatives.
- Support the development and delivery of reporting dashboards for LCC service areas and staff.
- Keep up to date with the latest digital trends and technologies to improve digital services.
Develop the knowledge required to effectively meet set targets and objectives.

Qualifications
