Document Controller

About the role

At National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), we keep the UK powered—connecting communities, supporting businesses, and enabling everyday life. Our network is vital to the nation, and we’re continuously evolving to meet future energy needs.

We’re looking for a Document Controller to support large, multi-site projects across North Wales and the Northeast and Northwest of England, ensuring all project documentation is compliant, accurate, and fully traceable.

In this role, you’ll act as the key link between our internal teams and the Main Works Contractor’s document control function. You’ll ensure all contractual documentation is managed in line with National Grid policies and procedures.

Working closely with project teams, you’ll coordinate document reviews and approvals, track changes, and maintain robust version control to ensure a clear and auditable record. You’ll also oversee document distribution to relevant stakeholders and manage the SharePoint site.

We’re particularly interested in someone who can proactively identify opportunities for improvement and recommend enhancements to current processes and systems.

This role offers flexible working, with 1–2 days per week on-site alongside hybrid working from home.

About you

You’ll bring strong organisational and technical skills, with confidence in using Microsoft applications including SharePoint, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

You’ll also have:

Proven experience working with Common Data Environments (CDE) or similar collaboration platforms.
A solid understanding of document control processes, including naming conventions and metadata.
Experience supporting project delivery environments.

Desirable experience includes:

Knowledge of project handover documentation and CDM health & safety requirements
Awareness of working within a construction or contractual environment, including terms, conditions, and processes.

You’ll be a highly organised individual with strong planning and process management skills, able to work effectively across teams.

A full UK driving licence is essential, as travel to regional sites will be required.

A competitive salary between £36,300– £40,600 – dependent on capability
