Full job description

HOPECFI is a newy established provider of specialised care and support services for children with diverse needs. We are dedicated to promoting the health, well-being, and development of children through personalised and comprehensive therapy programs.

Job Title: SENCo - 2nd In Charge

We are seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) to join our team. The SENCo will play a key role in leading and coordinating the provision of support for children with SEN, ensuring that their individual needs are identified, assessed, and met effectively. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SEN legislation and best practices, as well as excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills.

Responsibilities:

Lead and oversee the Special Educational Needs provision within the school, ensuring that it is inclusive, effective, and compliant with statutory requirements and best practice guidelines. Work collaboratively with the leadership and management team, support staff, parents, and external agencies to identify and assess the needs of children with SEN, developing and implementing appropriate support plans and interventions to address their individual needs. Coordinate the provision of additional support and resources for children with SEN, including access to specialist services such as speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and counselling, as required. Provide guidance, advice, and support to staff and support staff on strategies and approaches to support children with SEN effectively, promoting inclusive practice and differentiation. Monitor and evaluate the progress and outcomes of children with SEN, using a range of assessment tools and techniques to track their academic, social, and emotional development, and identify areas for improvement. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of children with SEN, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs), progress reports, and other relevant documentation, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations. Lead on the coordination and implementation of the policies and procedures, ensuring that they are reviewed regularly and communicated effectively to all stakeholders. Promote a culture of inclusion, equality, and diversity within the provision's community, raising awareness and understanding of SEN among staff, children, and parents, and fostering positive attitudes and relationships. Keep abreast of developments in SEN legislation, policies, and best practices, attending training and professional development activities as required, and disseminating information to colleagues. Act as the designated point of contact for external agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders involved in supporting children with SEN, maintaining effective communication and partnership working.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

Level 3 or above in Childcare or Education, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent teaching qualification is desirable. Postgraduate qualification in Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCo) or willingness to work towards this qualification. Minimum of 3 years of experience working in education, with a focus on SEN support and coordination. Strong understanding of SEN legislation, policies, and best practices, with the ability to apply them effectively in a SEND setting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with colleagues, children, parents, and external agencies. Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team, delegate tasks effectively, and manage competing priorities. Highly organised and efficient, with excellent planning, time management, and problem-solving abilities. Compassionate, patient, and empathetic, with a genuine commitment to supporting the holistic development and well-being of children with SEN.
