About the Role
This role offers the opportunity to lead and modernise the credit control function within a growing national business. You'll have genuine autonomy to improve processes, influence working capital performance and develop your team while working closely with senior management.
We are seeking an experienced and driven Credit Control Manager to lead our credit control function in Leeds. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated finance professional to take ownership of the company's credit management strategy, maximise cash flow and lead a small credit control team.
Reporting to the Finance Director, you will be accountable for achieving agreed credit control objectives, including reduction of aged debt, improvement in debtor days, cash collection performance and overall effectiveness of the credit control function, maintaining robust credit control procedures and delivering a high standard of customer service. You will play a key role in supporting the wider finance team and driving continuous improvement across the department.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead, motivate and develop the Credit Control team, providing day to day support, coaching and performance management.
· Oversee the end to end credit control process, ensuring invoices are collected within agreed payment terms.
· Monitor aged debt, debtor days and cash collection performance, implementing strategies to improve results.
· Approve credit limits and review customer creditworthiness to minimise financial risk.
· Manage complex customer accounts and support the team in resolving escalated disputes.
· Produce weekly and monthly KPI reports, aged debt analysis and cash collection forecasts for senior management.
· Develop, review and implement credit control policies, procedures and best practice.
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers and internal stakeholders.
· Work closely with the Sales and Finance teams to resolve invoice queries and improve payment performance.
· Ensure accurate cash allocation, account reconciliations and sales ledger integrity.
· Support month end and year end finance activities.
· Ensure compliance with company policies, financial controls and relevant legislation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
· Minimum of five years' experience within Credit Control, including experience in a senior or supervisory role.
· Ideally qualified to CICM Level 5 Diploma in Credit Management.
· Proven experience leading or mentoring a credit control team.
· Demonstrable success in reducing aged debt and improving cash flow.
· Strong understanding of sales ledger, accounts receivable and credit risk management.
· Excellent leadership, communication and negotiation skills.
· Strong commercial awareness and sound decision making ability.
· Highly organised with excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
· Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
· Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
Desirable
· Experience using Pegasus Opera accounting software.
· Experience of producing management information and performance reporting.
