Full job description

We are recruiting a Material Handler (360 Operator) to join the Non-Ferrous Team at our new Barnsley site.

Barnsley operates as a ferrous and non-ferrous metals site, and this role will focus specifically on supporting non-ferrous operations. You will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating 360 material handlers to move, sort and manage non-ferrous scrap materials, ensuring quality control and production targets are consistently achieved.

This is a skilled plant operator role requiring precision, attention to detail and strong safety awareness within a busy metal recycling environment.

Key Responsibilities

Operate 360 material handlers to move and manage non-ferrous scrap materials
Feed processing equipment and support material segregation
Load and unload vehicles safely and efficiently
Stockpile and segregate materials in line with grading specifications
Support Scrap Inspectors and Supervisors in maintaining grade integrity
Conduct daily pre-start inspections and complete required documentation
Report mechanical defects, damage or performance concerns promptly
Carry out routine cleaning and basic maintenance of your allocated machine
Work to production targets while maintaining strict quality standards

Machine Responsibility

Operators are expected to take ownership of their machine, including:

Completing daily inspections and reporting defects
Monitoring machine performance and wear
Keeping the cab and external machine areas clean and presentable
Operating within manufacturer guidelines and company procedures

Health, Safety & Compliance

Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and site rules
Wear appropriate PPE at all times
Follow Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other plant
Report hazards, near misses and unsafe behaviours
Support compliance with environmental and operational standards

Skills & Experience

Essential:

Valid 360 material handler / excavator licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
Experience operating 360 plant within recycling, metals or heavy industry
Strong awareness of safe plant operation
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Reliable and safety-focused

Desirable:

Experience within non-ferrous metal recycling
Understanding of non-ferrous grading
Basic mechanical knowledge
