About Carry on Campers
We are a growing specialist in custom van conversions. We take standard panel vans and transform them into high-specification, bespoke campervans and motorhomes. We pride ourselves on exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail, and delivering high-end finishes for our customers.
We are looking for an experienced Coach Builder / Campervan Conversion Specialist to join our dedicated workshop team on a full-time basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Full Vehicle Conversions: Executing complete campervan conversions from start to finish on various vehicle bases (e.g., VW Transporter, Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter).
- Carpentry & Cabinetry: Fitting pre-made modular furniture, as well as measuring, cutting, and building bespoke interior cabinetry, worktops, and seating.
- Insulation & Lining: Soundproofing, insulating, ply-lining, and carpet-lining vehicle interiors.
- Window & Roof Fitting: Safely cutting bodywork to install glass windows, skylights, pop-top roofs, and ventilation systems.
- Basic Auto Electrics: Installing 12V and 230V dual-battery systems, solar panels, LED lighting, inverter systems, and split chargers.
- Plumbing Systems: Installing freshwater/waste tanks, sinks, diesel heaters, and appliances.
- Quality & Safety: Testing all installed components, ensuring full compliance with safety standards, and keeping a clean, organised workspace.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience: Proven experience in coach building, campervan/caravan conversions, boat fitting, or high-end vehicle modification.
- Multi-Skilled Trade Background: Solid expertise in carpentry/joinery, with working knowledge of auto electrics and basic plumbing.
- Tool Competency: Competent and safe using power tools, metal-cutting equipment, and hand tools.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent eye for detail, precision measuring, and pride in high-quality finishing.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to read technical drawings, plan layouts, and troubleshoot installation challenges independently.
- Full UK Driving Licence: Required for moving vehicles around the workshop and test drives.
Desirable (but not essential)
- Level 2 & 3 NVQ/ Diploma in Vehicle Body Building & Repair
- Level 2 & 3 Automotive Maintenance & Repair
- Level 3 Vehicle Body Builder / Heavy Vehicle Trailer Builder
- Level 3 Heritage Engineering Vehicle Coachbuilding & Trim Technician
- Experience with pop-top roof installations or custom electrical looms.
