Full job description

The Occupational Therapy Assistant assists the Occupational Therapist to enable patients to participate in meaningful activity, one-to-one or group intervention work and to facilitate the building of skills and access to resources for sustainable recovery and timely discharge. You will also assist with assessments using the MOHOST Single Observation Tool.

Under direction from the Occupational Therapist, the Occupational Therapy Assistant will plan and implement both individual and group interventions within the ward environments, and in the local community following assessment by the occupational therapist.

You will support patients to achieve goals around independence, and to symptoms and to build a meaningful life.

You will assist patients with graded plans to access community resources, to work on building their daily living skills or help them engage in activities that they identify as meaningful to them and their recovery.

The Occupational Therapy Assistant will also develop positive working relationships with community partner agencies supporting effective partnership working. You will actively be supporting the patient to link up with community resources and groups that will support the patient’s discharge and allow them to continue accessing these to maintain their wellbeing and prevent readmission.

The successful candidate will be able to:

Assist and support a comprehensive Occupational Therapy treatment program for Service Users under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist.
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and contribute to overall provision of a high quality service.
Maintain clear links with the profession’s structures and your professional leads within the Trust and adhere to the professional standards and codes of conduct.
Build a collaborative relationship with Service Users that will promote engagement in the therapeutic process.
In liaison with the Occupational Therapists, to select activities appropriate to Service User needs and carry these out.
Engage with a service user to develop or maintain skills for independent living such as cooking, managing the home environment, creating an activity timetable, managing self-care, increasing exercise tolerance.
Communicate objective treatment outcomes for defined Service Users both verbally through MDT evaluations, team integration and telephone and non-verbally through documentation.
Actively engage in clinical supervision with a designated Occupational Therapist.
