Speech and Language Therapist (Self-Employed Contractor)

Location: Rotherham House Children's Home, Rotherham

Hours: Part-Time (Flexible)

Contract Type: Self-Employed / Independent Contractor

Rate: Competitive hourly/sessional rate (negotiable based on experience)

About Us

Rotherham House is a nurturing, trauma-informed children's home providing care and support for young people aged 11–18 with a range of emotional, behavioural, learning, and neurodevelopmental needs.

We are committed to helping young people thrive through therapeutic support, positive relationships, and personalised care. As part of our developing therapeutic team, we are seeking a dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to work alongside our staff and young people.

The Role

We are looking for a qualified Speech and Language Therapist to provide assessment, intervention, and consultation for young people who may experience communication difficulties, learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions, social communication needs, and developmental trauma.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with residential staff, education providers, families, and external professionals to support positive outcomes for young people.

Key Responsibilities

Complete Speech and Language Therapy assessments.
Develop individual therapy plans and recommendations.
Deliver direct therapeutic interventions where appropriate.
Provide communication profiles and support strategies.
Contribute to care planning and multi-agency meetings.
Support staff to understand and respond to communication needs.
Deliver training and guidance to residential staff.
Produce professional reports and outcome measures.

Essential Requirements

Degree in Speech and Language Therapy.
Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).
Experience working with children and young people.
Knowledge of autism, learning disabilities, trauma, and attachment.
Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Professional indemnity insurance.

Desirable Experience

Working within residential childcare settings.
Supporting young people with complex needs.
Therapeutic and trauma-informed practice.
Experience delivering staff training and consultation.
