About the Role
We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Mobile Fleet Technician to join our team. In this vital role, you will carry out vehicle repairs at our depots, at the roadside, and on live traffic management sites — keeping our fleet safe, compliant, and operationally available at all times.
You will take ownership of a wide range of categorised fleet defects, working reactively to minimise vehicle downtime and support our delivery teams in the field. A company vehicle, tools, and all required PPE are provided.

What You Will Be Working On
Your core repair responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out mechanical repairs, including engine components, computer diagnostics, and minor mechanical work.
- Repairing and replacing warning lighting systems, including beacons and lightbars.
- Replacing vehicle lighting and lenses, such as rear lights, brake lights, indicators, and side markers.
- Fixing damaged mirrors, wipers, washers, and screen wash systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Work from HTM depots, at the roadside, or on live traffic management sites to carry out vehicle defect repairs and keep operational delays to a minimum.
- Attend daily briefings to understand defect priorities and carry out work instructions provided by the Fleet Supervisor.
- Complete fast, effective repairs to Vehicles Off the Road (VOR) to maximise fleet availability for delivery teams.
- Identify and report any unreported defects, carry out immediate repairs where possible, and report all completed work back to the Fleet Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all repairs within the vehicle defect management system.
- Identify issues with vehicles using the diagnostic equipment
- Conduct standard vehicle audits in line with company KPIs, including onboarding and off-boarding inspections.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels on the technician vehicle, ensuring sufficient inventory is available to carry out required repairs, and report stock levels to the Fleet Supervisor.
- Keep all tools and equipment properly maintained and in line with manufacturer recommendations.
- Oversee the installation and removal of vehicle technology, safety systems, and equipment enhancements.
- Deliver and collect vehicles from third-party repairers when external work is required.
- Adhere strictly to all transport Risk Assessments (RAMS) and wear appropriate PPE in line with HTM policies at all times.
Working Hours
This role is contracted at 47.5 hours per week. Start times may vary based on operational requirements — further detail on shift patterns and any weekend or on-call expectations will be discussed at interview.

Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Full, valid UK Driving Licence (required for this mobile role).
- Recognised qualification or proven competency in auto-electrics (12V/24V systems).
- Proven experience working as a mobile mechanic, fleet technician, or in a rapid-response roadside repair environment.
- Strong track record of diagnosing and repairing electrical faults, including vehicle safety systems, beacons, and monitors.
- Previous experience working with commercial vehicles.
- Demonstrated ability to work safely in high-risk environments, such as live traffic sites or busy depots, with strict adherence to Risk Assessments.
Desirable
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Light or Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- HGV Driving Licence (Class 2 / Category C).
