GRAHAM is proud to be at the forefront of one of the UK’s most ambitious healthcare transformation programmes, having been appointed as Contracting Partner for the regeneration of a major NHS healthcare project in West Yorkshire.
This is far more than a construction project — it is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to reshape how healthcare is delivered for future communities. The scheme will create a state-of-the-art, digitally enabled “super hospital,” designed to revolutionise patient care, enhance staff wellbeing, and set new benchmarks for clinical environments across the UK.
As we embark on this nationally significant project, we invite applications for a Senior Health & Safety Advisor – A role which will be key in supporting the delivery of health, safety, and wellbeing across the project, working closely with all teams to ensure the highest standards of compliance and performance.
This role focuses on providing expert guidance, driving day-to-day safety standards, and promoting a proactive, positive culture on site. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring safe working practices are embedded at every stage, contributing to the successful delivery of a complex, high-profile project.
Expected duties for the Senior Health and Safety Advisor:
Pre Construction
• Extensive meeting participation and collaboration with other Framework partners and the wider site teams - some travel will be required
• Interrogating the design to ensure H&S expectations can be met during the build process in conjunction with the Principal Designer and entire team
Site Support & Operational Delivery
• Provide practical, day-to-day H&S advice and guidance to site and project teams
• Support the implementation of H&S strategy and procedures on site in line with client and Framework requirements
• Assist in ensuring safe systems of work are in place across all activities
• Engage closely with subcontractors to ensure compliance and alignment
Compliance, Auditing & Assurance
• Conduct regular health, safety, and environmental inspections and audits
• Monitor compliance with legal requirements and company standards
• Support the development and continuous improvement of SHE procedures
Incident Management & Risk Control
- Investigate accidents, incidents, observation reporting, identifying root causes and leading the implementation of improvements from an H&S capacity
- Promote hazard identification and observation reporting across site
- Assist in risk assessments and method statement development where required
Culture & Engagement
- Lead by example in all aspects of health, safety, and wellbeing
- Promote a strong, visible health and safety culture across the workforce
- Engage operatives and supervisors in continuous improvement of H&S culture
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Support delivery of H&S training and awareness programmes
- Provide coaching and guidance to site teams and supervisors
- Assist in rolling out initiatives, campaigns, and best practice
- Contribute to continuous improvement through feedback and lessons learned
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build effective relationships with project teams, clients, and subcontractors
- Support responses to audits, inspections, and client requirements
- Represent H&S function in site meetings and forums where required
Requirements:
Essential
- Proven extensive experience in an Health & Advisor role within the construction industry
- NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of UK H&S legislation and site practices
- Previous experience of working on a large scale project environment, ideally within the healthcare sector
- Able to operate with Senior leaders, displaying collaborative behaviours with the prime focus of promoting H&S at all opportunities
