Full job description

Venus has an exciting opportunity for successful candidates to gain post graduate qualification in evidence-based psychotherapies for children and young people.

Venus is a Sefton-based charity that provides support to our local community, families, and individuals. As part of the charity and based at the Star Centre, we offer support and therapeutic interventions specifically for children, young people and their families.

This 12 month trainee post offers the opportunity to develop the essential skills required to practise as an evidence-based Parent Training Practitioner. Trainees will gain practical experience delivering parenting interventions, including group programmes and individual one-to-one coaching for parents/carers of children between the ages of 3-10. The role focuses on helping parents feel confident in managing their child’s behaviour and supporting their personal and social development. The course includes model-specific supervision in Incredible Years, skills-based workshops, and teaching on evidence-based approaches that promote children’s emotional wellbeing and mental health.

Qualification:

On successful completion of the course, students will gain a Postgraduate Diploma in Evidence Based Psychological Treatments for Parenting for Conduct Disorder plus eligibility for Individual Evidence Based Parent Practitioner BABCP Accreditation.

Job Title: Post Graduate Diploma Parent Training Trainee Practitioner

Contract: 12 months fixed term (extension funding dependant)

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: £27,391pa (£15.05ph)

Applicants should have:

● a minimum of 2 years of working in Parenting/Children, Young People, Family Work.

● a recognised core profession or ability to evidence equivalent knowledge and skills.

● for postgraduate diploma, trainees should have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification (level 6).

Applicants without one of these approved core professions will be required to evidence a minimum of 4 years of equivalent knowledge and skills using the BABCP's Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) framework.

Applicants need to be able to start the Post Graduate training programme taught academic dates in January 2027 (dates to be confirmed) and commit to attendance at all University based taught and self-study days required by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) Psychological Therapies Training Centre.

You will work within the service for the remaining days of the week using your newly developed skills to ensure you gain the necessary clinical practice hours to fulfil the academic programme. This is 100 hours of modality and case specific practice for the part time courses.

Job Purpose

As a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDip) trainee, the post holder will deliver evidence based, client centred care to children and young people with mental health problems within the THRIVE Framework for service delivery and in line with their training programme.

The post holder will work under supervision whilst undertaking their PGDip. with the CYP/PT Psychological Therapies Training Centre. The training post will equip the post-holder to provide interventions for children, young people or families referred to the service, using the core principles of CYP/PT practice along with an evidence based intervention consistent with the course they are attending.

The post- holder will attend all taught and self-study days required by the education provider, as specified within the CYP/PT curriculum and work in the service for the remaining days of the week using their newly developed skills.

The post holder will work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary and should be committed to equal opportunities.

As the post is identified within the CYPMH strategy, it is expected the role will continue to develop in line with national and local initiatives.
