We are currently looking to appoint an experienced, dependable and engaging 1:1 Tutor to work with a looked after child in the Liverpool L28 area.
This is an important role requiring somebody who can provide both strong academic support and the consistency, patience and professional boundaries required when working with a young person who may have experienced disruption within education.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide individual tuition to one young person, five days per week.
The position guarantees three hours of direct tuition each day, Monday to Friday, alongside one hour of paid planning, preparation and associated professional duties.
There may also be opportunities for additional hours in the future as the placement develops and as LRL Education expands its provision within the Liverpool area.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering personalised learning based upon the young person's individual starting points, needs and agreed educational outcomes.
The role will include:
Providing engaging 1:1 tuition across appropriate areas of the curriculum
Planning learning which is accessible, appropriately challenging and responsive to the young person's needs
Supporting the development of English and Maths skills
Adapting teaching approaches to support engagement, confidence and progress
Building a consistent and appropriate professional relationship with the young person
Supporting the young person to develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards learning
Maintaining clear records of attendance, engagement and progress
Providing regular feedback to LRL Education regarding progress, concerns and emerging needs
Contributing to Individual Learning Plans, reviews and progress reporting where required
Following all safeguarding, child protection, health and safety, behaviour and professional conduct procedures
Working professionally with LRL Education, carers, schools, local authorities and other professionals involved in supporting the young person
Immediately reporting any safeguarding concerns in accordance with LRL Education's safeguarding procedures
About You
We are looking for somebody who is reliable, calm, adaptable and able to establish positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
You should have experience of teaching, tutoring or supporting children and young people, ideally including young people with additional needs, social, emotional and mental health needs, disrupted education or experience of alternative provision.
You will need to demonstrate:
Strong communication and relationship building skills
The ability to plan and deliver engaging individualised learning
The ability to adapt teaching to different academic starting points and learning needs
A patient, consistent and trauma informed approach
An understanding of safeguarding responsibilities when working with children and young people
Strong professional boundaries
Good organisation, record keeping and communication skills
The ability to work independently while remaining accountable to LRL Education's safeguarding and quality assurance procedures
A commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people
Essential Requirements
Applicants should have:
Relevant teaching, tutoring, education or youth support experience
A good standard of English and Maths
Experience of working directly with children or young people
The ability to plan and deliver appropriate learning activities independently
A clear understanding of safeguarding and child protection
The ability to provide a full employment history and satisfactorily explain any gaps in employment
The ability to provide suitable professional references
The right to work in the UK
Desirable
We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with:
Qualified Teacher Status, QTLS or relevant teaching qualifications
Experience delivering Functional Skills or GCSE English and/or Maths
Experience working within alternative provision
Experience working with looked after children or children with social care involvement
Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEND or barriers to education
Trauma informed practice experience
Relevant mentoring, youth work or pastoral qualifications
Pay and Working Arrangements
The rate of pay is £30 to £35 per hour, depending upon qualifications and relevant experience.
The successful candidate will be guaranteed three hours of direct tuition per day, five days per week.
The role will also include one additional paid hour for planning, preparation and associated professional duties.
There may be opportunities for additional hours and further work with LRL Education as our provision within the area develops.
