About the Company

Our client is an exciting, fast-growing start-up in the payments space, building a fully integrated platform that is transforming how merchants are onboarded, approved, and scaled globally. With a strong focus on innovation, automation, and user experience, the business is redefining traditional underwriting and risk processes.

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Underwriter to join a high-performing risk team. This role will play a critical part in assessing merchant applications, managing risk exposure, and supporting sustainable growth across global markets.

You’ll work cross-functionally with product, compliance, and commercial teams to ensure underwriting decisions are both data-driven and aligned with business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Assess and underwrite new merchant applications across multiple jurisdictions
Analyse financial statements, transaction data, and risk indicators to inform decisions
Monitor existing merchant portfolios and recommend adjustments where necessary
Collaborate with onboarding, compliance, and fraud teams to streamline approval processes
Contribute to the development and refinement of underwriting policies and risk frameworks
Support automation initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve underwriting efficiency
Ensure adherence to regulatory and internal compliance standards

Requirements

Proven experience in underwriting, risk analysis, or credit assessment within Payments
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial and transactional data
Understanding of merchant acquiring, card schemes, and payments risk
Familiarity with AML/KYC requirements and regulatory considerations
Ability to balance risk management with commercial growth objectives
Excellent attention to detail and decision-making skills
Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
