For LS Events, this global focus has prompted a moment of reflection: what does it truly take to deliver when the world is watching? Beyond the spectacle lies a discipline built on precision, partnership and the ability to orchestrate entire cities into seamless, shared experiences. Drawing on our experience delivering events of global significance in London and beyond, we explore the operational mindset, technical expertise and collaborative frameworks required to meet these moments, with LS Events Projects Director Jess Noakes explaining why getting it right matters more than ever.
“When the world is watching, there is no rehearsal. There is no margin for error. No opportunity to recalibrate once the cameras are live. No second chance to protect a city’s reputation. The stakes are not just high, they are absolute.
Sporting events at this level represent more than competition, they’re catalysts for cultural connection, civic pride and global attention. They’re also powerful opportunities to create new audiences and spark lasting cultural shifts, moments where sport transcends the field of play to become a shared, unifying experience. For host cities, this demands not only operational excellence, but the ability to translate sporting moments into public experiences that resonate far beyond the finish line.

The most successful global sporting events are those where every stakeholder, from rights holders to governing bodies and city partners, operates with a shared vision and absolute clarity of purpose. LS Events approaches this as a ‘bolt-in’ partner, not a bolt-on service, embedding within client teams to understand their ambitions at a forensic level. Because true value is created not only through technical and operational excellence, but through the ability to interpret a vision, engage audiences emotionally and translate complex planning into moments that resonate far beyond the event itself.
At LS Events, we understand that while our clients provide the creative narrative, our role is to provide the operational discipline necessary to deliver a secure, spectacular, and flawless event experience when the world is watching.
Delivering the UEFA Champions League Final
Over 145 million people tuned in to watch the 2024 Champions League Final in London. Global sporting events are theatre, but their success depends on an infrastructure and approach that spans way beyond the stadium or the final cheer. LS Events was appointed as the Greater London Authority’s (GLA's) Event Management agency to produce, programme and manage the UEFA Champions League Final’s City Operations in London in June 2024. As part of the brief, LS Events delivered two Fan Meeting Points at Hyde Park and Victoria Embankment with an attendance of over 80,000. The team also delivered the Champions Festival simultaneously across five locations; Trafalgar Square, Regent Street, Somerset House, South Bank and Potters Field Park. This 4-day family festival welcomed over 400,000 football fans and Londoners to a series of free concerts, a Giant Trophy activation, the Champions tournament and engaging partner activations.
Sporting tournaments of this nature rely heavily on fan zones and public viewing spaces, not just ticketed venues. Creating these city-wide ecosystems is a core LS strength. As you'd expect there are many complexities with pan-London projects. They require technical superiority, including executing complex infrastructure and technical delivery in demanding environments and finite timeframes.

Managing Multi-Site Urban Ecosystems
Delivering at scale in a global city environment is not defined by a single site, but by the ability to orchestrate multiple, interdependent spaces as one coherent system. During the UEFA Champions Festival, LS Events managed seven venues across multiple London boroughs, each with its own constraints, stakeholders and sensitivities. From working within heritage parks to operating on key arterial routes such as Regent Street and Victoria Embankment, delivery required careful alignment of access, infrastructure and timing within one of the most complex urban environments in the world.
Experiences like this reinforce a core principle: successful global events are built on a balance of structured planning and real-time adaptability. Operational models must be robust enough to provide certainty, yet flexible enough to respond instantly as conditions evolve. It is this combination, clarity in planning and agility in execution, that underpins consistent performance in high-pressure environments.
SailGP, an integration of land, water and host city operations
This approach extends beyond London. When SailGP returned to the UK with the ambition to deliver its largest event to date, the challenge was not only scale, but integration, bringing together land, water and city operations into a single, seamless experience.
#block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { -stroke-style: none;-stroke-thickness: 2px; -tweak-text-block-stroke-color: hsla(var(-black-hsl), 1) ; } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 .sqs-html-content { -tweak-text-block-padding: 6% 6% 6% 6%; -tweak-text-block-padding: initial; } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { mix-blend-mode: var(-tweak-text-block-blend ); border-radius: var(-tweak-text-block-radius); } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { -tweak-text-block-radius: 0px 0px 0px 0px; } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { -tweak-text-block-blend : normal; } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { -blur-value: blur(15px);} @media screen and (max-width: 767px) { #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { } } @media screen and (max-width: 767px) { #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 .sqs-html-content { } } @media screen and (max-width: 767px) { } #block-yui_3_17_2_1_1778069688997_22047 { -opacity: 100%; -translate-x: 0px; -translate-y: 0px; -rotation: 0deg; -scale-x: 100%; -scale-y: 100%; -skew-x: 0deg; -skew-y: 0deg; -origin-x: 50%; -origin-y: 50%; opacity: var(-opacity, 1); transform: translateX(var(-translate-x)) translateY(var(-translate-y)) rotate(var(-rotation)) scale(var(-scale-x), var(-scale-y)) skewX(var(-skew-x)) skewY(var(-skew-y)); transform-origin: var(-origin-x) var(-origin-y); }
Working in direct partnership with the SailGP global team, LS Events delivered a fully integrated model spanning project management, safety, on-water operations, overlay and venue design. The event required coordination across eight distinct sites, including a live Royal Navy base, alongside close collaboration with marine police, coastguard, emergency services and local authorities.
The complexity of SailGP shows that as global sporting events evolve, delivery environments are becoming increasingly fluid. Boundaries between venue and city, land and water, ticketed and open-access are dissolving. In response, event management must also evolve, towards integrated, multi-agency frameworks that prioritise visibility, coordination and control across entire ecosystems.
Whether operating across central London or an international waterfront, the principle remains the same. Success is not just about planning in advance, but about maintaining control, clarity and confidence in real time.
Formula E and Beyond
As global sporting events evolve, audience expectations are shifting. Attendance is no longer passive, fans expect to be immersed, engaged and part of the experience. This places new demands on host cities and delivery partners, to design environments that are not only operationally sound, but experientially rich.
Our long-standing partnership with Formula E reflects this shift. Since 2018, our role has evolved from crowd consultancy to global delivery partner, supporting races across multiple international locations. When London joined the championship in 2021, LS Events became the local operator, establishing a model that integrates operational delivery with fan experience design.
At the centre of this is the Formula E Fan Village, a purpose-built environment designed to extend the race beyond the track and create a fully immersive spectator journey. Appointed as London’s Fan Village delivery partner in 2023, we’ve led the evolution of this space, combining spatial design, technology and commercial integration to maximise both engagement and performance.

Data-Driven Engagement and Future Innovation
Our approach begins with understanding how audiences move, interact and engage within a space. Using detailed data insights from previous events, we design environments that optimise flow, reduce friction points such as queueing, and encourage exploration, ultimately enhancing dwell time and increasing opportunities for interaction with partners and sponsors.
This is paired with a strong focus on innovation. The Formula E Fan Village is built around cutting-edge ‘third space’ engagement. From AI-powered activations and interactive gaming environments to large-scale digital content experiences. In 2024, this included the delivery of the Google Cloud x Formula E Hackathon, a Guinness World Record-breaking event that brought together over 1,300 participants to develop AI-driven solutions using live race data.
Crucially, these experiences are not layered on top of operations, they are designed in parallel. Through detailed 3D spatial planning, close collaboration with creative and technical partners, and ongoing exploration of emerging technologies, we ensure that every element of the environment contributes to a cohesive and compelling fan journey.
The result is a model where operational discipline and creative design work as one, transforming spectator spaces into high-performing, fan-centric environments that enhance atmosphere, deepen engagement and deliver measurable value for partners.
Creating Moments That Resonate
As the global events landscape evolves, so too does the definition of success. It is no longer measured solely by scale or technical delivery, but by the ability to align vision, orchestrate complexity and create moments that connect with people on a deeper level.
This level of integration enables more than seamless operations. It creates the conditions for something greater: events that move beyond logistics and infrastructure to become emotional, cultural moments. Moments that bring people together, capture global attention and leave a lasting legacy for cities and audiences alike.
Because when the world is watching, success is not just about what is delivered, it is about how it is experienced. It’s the combination of precision and partnership, planning and intuition, structure and storytelling that transforms an event into something unforgettable.
For LS Events, this is what it means to deliver event excellence when the world is watching, delivering with clarity, collaborating with purpose, and creating experiences that resonate long after the final moment has passed.”
