Role Description
We are looking for a motivated Sports Coach apprentice who will work towards the Level 4 Sports Coach apprenticeship standard, delivered by Educationwise. In this role, you’ll design, deliver and evaluate high-quality coaching programmes for participants of all ages and abilities. You will build advanced coaching skills, specialise in one pathway (High-Performance, Community, or School Coaching), and support long-term participant development.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and review coaching sessions/programmes across school, community or high performance settings.
- Ensure all sessions are inclusive, safe, age-appropriate and meet participant needs.
- Assist with setting up and packing away equipment; maintain safe facilities.
- Monitor, record and report on participant progress, outcomes, and coaching effectiveness.
- Work with participants, parents, school staff, and colleagues to ensure high engagement and positive experiences.
- Reflect on own coaching practice; engage with continuous professional development.
- Liaise with your Educationwise tutor and mentor; complete coursework, assignments and assessments.
- Prepare for and undertake the End-Point Assessment (EPA) which includes a presentation, a portfolio of evidence, and a professional discussion.
- Assisting with the delivery of sport and physical activities to children and young people, both in school curriculum time following the PE National Curriculum and/or set programs of study and also deliver a range of OSHL, (Out Of School Hours Learning) extracurricular activities before school, at lunch times, after school and in school holiday periods.
Essential
- 18 or over
- Minimum Level 2 in Sport/Childcare (GCSE, A-Level, BTEC etc.)
- Minimum Level 2 in English and Maths. If not already achieved, willingness to complete Functional Skills.
Desirable
- Previous experience in coaching, schools, clubs or sports leadership.
- Safeguarding, first aid and child-protection awareness.
- Passion for sport, ability to adapt to different groups (ages / abilities).
Training & Development
- The programme runs for 15 months, followed by a 3-month EPA (End-Point Assessment)
- Delivered remotely via bi-weekly online sessions, plus in-role practical coaching
- Specialist tutor support; access to learning materials and mentoring
- Completion gives you a nationally recognised Level 4 Sports Coach qualification
