Full job description

St Vincent’s Family Project is a registered charity that works with vulnerable families and children in Westminster. We are looking for volunteers who would like to help us with running our creche on Wednesday and/or Friday from 9.30am-12.30pm and our drop-in sessions on Tuesday and Thursday from 9.30am to 2.30pm

Your duties will include:

Setting up and organising creative and play activities with the children to promote healthy child development
Leading song and story time
Providing emotional support, especially for children who are new to Crèche.
Helping to take care of children
Making sure children are playing in a safe environment
Preparing a healthy snack for children
Practical task like tidying up, setting up and cleaning
Helping create a welcoming and supportive environment for parents and their children
Engaging in different activities with both parents and children
Assisting at lunch and snack time
General support of Project Workers in the daily running of the drop-in and creche.

Skills / Qualifications

A love for children and patience in working with them
An understanding of children’s needs
Skills in arts and crafts, storytelling, music are a bonus and useful but not essential
The availability to commit to one or more sessions a week.
An ability to relate sympathetically and supportively with people
An understanding of the needs of parents and children
A desire to meet new people and make new friends.

Volunteers are provided with induction, supervision and support. If particular training needs are identified, we will try to accommodate those to the best of our abilities. Travel expenses and materials costs (up to an agreed limit) will be reimbursed.
