About the role:
The opportunity has arisen for a qualified HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist wishing to undertake a out-of-hours shifts within the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Laboratory at North Middlesex University Hospital. This full time role will cover routine shifts (as and when required/possible), but mostly covering weekend/overnight shifts. The ideal candidate will contribute to providing a professional and technical laboratory service working effectively as a team member as part of the overall department and to work independently performing routine analyses with support as required from senior Biomedical Scientists. Haematology duties include running the Sysmex XN track, Sysmex CS analysers, Tosoh G11 analysers, Interrliner and RS analysers, Bio-Rad Variant II, morphology and maintaining TATs for A&E and other urgent areas.
Blood Transfusion duties will include automated grouping, antibody investigation, cross-matching, NHSBT referrals and providing blood component support for Major Haemorrhages. In addition, the post holder will ensure to comply with health and safety; training and development; and all quality aspects of the laboratory (including but not limited to EQAs, audits and incident reporting).
