Baylis is looking for an experienced and motivated MET Technician to join our busy Accident Repair Centre in Cheltenham. As an integral part of our repair team, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient removal, repair and refitting of mechanical, electrical and trim components, ensuring vehicles are returned to manufacturer standards and customer expectations.
Working alongside our estimators, paint technicians and workshop team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality repairs while maintaining productivity, safety and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out the removal and refitting of mechanical, electrical and trim (MET) components on a wide range of vehicles.
- Diagnose and identify additional damage during the repair process and communicate findings to the Workshop Controller or Vehicle Damage Assessor (VDA).
- Ensure all parts required for repair are identified, ordered and available to support an efficient repair journey.
- Safely store removed components to prevent loss or damage and ensure accurate refitting.
- Carry out repairs and replacement of mechanical components including suspension, steering, braking and drivetrain systems where required.
- Use manufacturer-approved diagnostic equipment to carry out fault finding, calibrations and control unit resets.
- Complete ADAS calibrations and post-repair diagnostic checks where required.
- Ensure all repairs are completed to manufacturer standards and within agreed timescales.
- Maintain accurate repair records and complete all relevant documentation.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures, company policies and industry regulations.
- Maintain tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Support colleagues and contribute positively to a team-focused workshop environment.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- ATA/IMI Accredited MET Technician qualification (preferred).
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
- Previous experience working within a busy accident repair centre or bodyshop environment.
- Strong mechanical and electrical diagnostic skills.
- Experience using manufacturer diagnostic equipment and repair methods.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Full UK driving licence.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Understanding of modern vehicle systems, including electrical and electronic components.
- Knowledge of manufacturer repair methods and bodyshop processes.
- Familiarity with ADAS systems and calibration procedures.
- Ability to identify additional repair requirements and communicate effectively with colleagues.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage workload effectively.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements within a bodyshop environment.
- Commitment to maintaining industry standards and manufacturer repair methods.
- Willingness to continually develop skills and knowledge through training and development opportunities.
