Full job description

Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optical Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to optometrists, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation within the practice. Your knowledge of anatomy and laboratory procedures will be invaluable in assisting with patient care and maintaining high standards of service.

Responsibilities

Assist in the preparation of patients for eye examinations, including taking medical histories and measuring visual acuity.
Conduct preliminary tests such as visual field tests, colour vision tests, and intraocular pressure measurements.
Maintain and organise laboratory equipment, ensuring all tools are clean, calibrated, and ready for use.
Support the fitting and dispensing of spectacles and contact lenses, providing patients with guidance on proper usage and care.
Manage patient records accurately, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with data protection regulations.
Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries and concerns in a professional manner.
Collaborate with team members to ensure a seamless workflow within the practice.

Skills

Strong knowledge of anatomy related to the eye and vision is essential.
Familiarity with laboratory procedures and equipment is highly desirable.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in measurements and record-keeping.
Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a positive attitude.
Proficient in using computer systems for patient management and record maintenance.
