Job Summary

Pumpkin Lane Day Nursery is looking for a caring, confident and experienced Room Leader to join our friendly team on a maternity cover basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic early years professional who is passionate about providing high-quality care and education. The successful candidate will lead the day-to-day running of the room, support the nursery team and help create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment where children can learn, grow and thrive.

This is a maternity cover position with the potential to become a permanent long-term role, subject to business needs, successful completion of the probationary period and performance.

Responsibilities

As a Room Leader, your duties will include:

Leading the day-to-day running of the room and ensuring high standards of care and education
Supporting, guiding and motivating practitioners within the room
Providing high-quality learning opportunities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage
Planning and delivering engaging activities based on children’s individual needs, interests and stages of development
Observing, assessing and recording children’s progress
Supporting key persons with learning journals, observations and next steps
Creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive and stimulating environment
Building strong relationships with children, parents, carers and colleagues
Supporting children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, sleep and personal care
Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety and nursery policies are followed at all times
Working closely with management to support the smooth running of the nursery
Helping to maintain a clean, organised and well-resourced room
Acting as a positive role model for children and staff

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

A recognised Level 3 Early Years qualification, or equivalent
Previous experience working in an early years setting
Experience leading a room or supporting a team, preferred
A good understanding of the EYFS
Strong communication and leadership skills
A caring, patient and positive approach
Good organisational skills and attention to detail
Confidence in working in partnership with parents and carers
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Reliability, enthusiasm and a proactive attitude

Desirable

Previous Room Leader or Third in Charge experience
Paediatric First Aid qualification
Experience using online learning journals
Knowledge of observation, assessment and planning processes
