Job Specification

Hours

Part-time – approximately 15–20 hours per week, worked across 3 or 4 days. Flexible working hours can be agreed.

Salary

Circa £30,000 per annum (pro rata), depending on experience and contracted hours.

Role Overview

We are seeking an organised and detail-oriented Payroll & Accounts Assistant to support our Finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with payroll and accounting experience who enjoys working in a varied role, supporting payroll, purchase ledger, sales ledger and general administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll

Process the weekly payroll accurately and within required deadlines.
Ensure payroll records are maintained and updated.
Assist with payroll-related queries where required.

Purchase Ledger

Input supplier invoices accurately into the accounting system.
Reconcile supplier statements.
Liaise with suppliers regarding payment dates and account queries.
Support the wider Purchase Ledger function as required.

Sales Ledger

Assist with debtor analysis and reporting.
Support credit control and debt recovery activities.
Maintain accurate customer account records.

Administration

Scan and file Proofs of Delivery (PODs).
Maintain electronic filing systems.
Provide general administrative support to the Finance department.
Undertake additional duties appropriate to the role.

Person Specification

Essential

Previous experience in payroll processing.
Experience working within a finance or accounts environment.
Knowledge of Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger processes.
Strong numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
Good organisational and time management skills.
Competent in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Ability to manage confidential information appropriately.
Excellent communication skills.

Desirable

Experience with payroll software.
Knowledge of accounting software.
Experience within a distribution or logistics environment.
