We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable PLC Tutor to join our growing training team. Your salary and grade will be tailored to reflect your skills, PLC knowledge, and teaching experience.
The Grade Structure
Junior PLC Tutor - Suited to entry-level engineers or technicians with solid PLC experience who are looking to transition into a training and education role. Full support and mentoring will be provided to develop your delivery skills.
PLC Tutor - Suited to candidates with a combination of strong industry experience and some existing training or coaching background. Comfortable delivering structured courses with minimal supervision.
Senior PLC Tutor - Suited to experienced trainers with broad PLC platform knowledge and the ability to deliver across multiple skill levels, from beginner to advanced learner cohorts.
Advanced PLC Tutor - Suited to subject matter experts with deep, multi-platform PLC expertise, significant industry experience, and a proven track record of delivering high-quality technical training.
All roles may contribute to course development and curriculum design.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, practical PLC training courses to learners ranging from complete beginners to experienced engineers.
- Facilitate both classroom-based and hands-on workshop sessions, ensuring learners can apply theory in a practical environment.
- Adapt teaching style and pace to suit mixed-ability groups and individual learner needs.
- Assess learner progress through practical exercises, tests, and observations, providing constructive feedback.
- Maintain up-to-date course materials and contribute to the development of new content as required.
- Ensure all training environments, rigs, and equipment are safe, functional, and ready for use.
- Keep accurate records of attendance, progress, and outcomes in line with company and awarding body requirements.
- Stay current with developments in PLC technology, industrial automation, and relevant industry standards.
- Support learners before and after sessions with technical queries and guidance.
- Contribute positively to the team, sharing knowledge and best practice with colleagues.
Essential Requirements
- Hands-on experience working with PLCs in an industrial or commercial environment.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
- Patient, approachable, and committed to learner success.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a training, teaching, coaching, or mentoring role.
- A relevant engineering qualification (HNC, HND, degree, or apprenticeship).
- Teaching qualification (PTLLS, AET, CET, or equivalent) — or willingness to work towards one.
- Experience with SCADA, HMI, drives, or industrial networks (Profibus, Profinet, EtherNet/IP).
- Knowledge of functional safety (SIL/IEC 62061) or process control.
- Experience in sectors such as manufacturing, utilities, oil & gas, food & beverage, or automotive.
Other information:
- Probationary period of 3 months.
- Occassional travel to our site locations in Gateshead as well as our clients sites.

Pay: £25,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
