About Us

An exciting and rewarding opportunity is available in the Safer Stronger Communities directorate for a Project and Policy Officer roles (Grade 7) to work across Gender Based Violence and other key policy areas as well as playing a key role in supporting the Mayor and Deputy Mayor in their role as Police and Crime Commissioner including providing complex and sensitive correspondence with the public, victims of crime and confidential complaints.

The SSCD performs a vital role in delivering on the Mayor’s manifesto commitments and the Greater Manchester Strategy by ensuring Greater Manchester is a safer, healthier and more prosperous place to live. In addition to Policing and Fire, the department leads on several other important policy areas. This can range from reducing reoffending to supporting victims to tackling hate crime and transport safety to name just a few.

On a national level, Greater Manchester is often viewed as a leader in its approaches to both Gender Based Violence and the broader work of Violence Reduction. The role provides a unique opportunity to work on these Greater Manchester flag ship agenda’s.

About You

The Safer Stronger Communities Directorate is looking for candidates who are seeking to further develop their skills and experiences, people that are committed to the values and ambitions of the organisation and are passionate about their work. The SSCD is a dynamic and busy department with a wide range of workers and subject matter experts from both the statutory and voluntary sectors, so you will be joining a vibrant and energetic team with its own strong sense of identity and purpose. If you are a good team-player, have well developed communication skills, both verbal and written, analogue and digital and have a keen interest in community safety and engaging the public, then this is a brilliant opportunity.

Applicants should be comfortable with responding to urgent and time specific tasks and be able to think and act quickly on their feet, processing complex information and managing the competing demands of a busy department. The directorate has its own dedicated senior political leader and therefore provides opportunity for working alongside the Deputy Mayor on a variety of tasks, enabling insights and exposure to a fast moving and ever evolving political agenda, which is both interesting and a privilege.

Leading on projects and taking responsibility, as delegated, for important pieces of work is a substantial aspect of this role and whilst support and training is provided, applicants must demonstrate that they have the knowledge and skills as well as the aptitude to function confidently and competently at this level.

The Directorate welcomes applicants in existing G7 roles as well as those looking to advance in the organisation. There is also scope within these roles for further incremental progress subject to review within agreed progression framework criteria.
