Are you passionate about helping people stay independent through safe moving and handling practice and the effective use of assistive technology?
If so, this is an exciting opportunity to join Blackburn with Darwen Adult Social Care’s Independent Living Service, working within our specialist area that supports independence across the borough.
Our team is central to providing high‑quality specialist support, guidance and training in assistive technology, safe moving and handling of people, and the provision of equipment across both acute and community environments.
We play a key role in delivering the Council’s commitment to supporting independent living. Based in the heart of Pennine Lancashire, we serve a diverse community and work closely with the wider Independent Living Service, including Moving & Handling, Occupational Therapy, Major Adaptation Surveyors, Disabled Facilities Grant Business Support, Housing Support, Telecare and Sensory Impairment services.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Assessment Officer who brings enthusiasm and a real passion for specialist services. A core part of the role involves training formal and informal carers in safe moving and handling and the appropriate use of assistive technology, so confident and professional communication skills are essential. Our team works with a strong solution‑focused mindset, and we are seeking someone who can actively contribute to evidence‑based, person‑centred practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out functional moving and handling assessments for individuals with a range of needs and personal circumstances, supporting them to remain independent in their own homes.
- Produce detailed reports and moving and handling risk assessments that reflect cultural diversity, demonstrate person‑centred practice and follow a strength‑based approach.
- Commission, coordinate and deliver moving and handling equipment, TEC and telecare solutions through appropriate services and providers, ensuring individuals receive the most suitable equipment to meet their assessed needs as part of their care package.
- Complete moving and handling, technology enabled care reviews to ensure support remains appropriate, and work jointly with commissioners to request Social Care reviews where strengths‑based approaches may safely reduce formal care.
We are proud to invest in the development of our workforce. You will receive ongoing professional development, training opportunities and regular supervision to support your growth.
This role is ideal if you want to play a pivotal part in a specialist service, develop your assessment and training skills.
Applicants must be flexible regarding work locations within the Borough, and daily start/finish times may vary depending on service needs.
Experience in adult health and social care is essential, as is a relevant Health & Social Care vocational qualification (or equivalent).
If you are enthusiastic about specialising in this field and joining a small, dynamic team, we would love to hear from you.
