Full job description

An exciting opportunity to work in a paid full time training role as a Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioner (CYWP) in Calderdale or Kirklees.

We are currently recruiting for 4 new training posts to start the to commence in Septmber 2026.

CYWP trainees provide low intensity interventions for anxiety, depression and conduct problems including guided self-help.

The trainees will work in Invictus Wellbeing in Calderdale or Kirklees (2 vacancies in each area), with employment as a qualified CYWP on successful completion of the 12 month training course (dependant on funding)

The posts are part of the Children and Young People’s Psychological Trainings initiative which is intended to increase and upskill the children & young people’s mental health workforce. Applicants should have experience of supporting children and young people with their mental health/wellbeing. They need to be willing to undertake an intensive training course and they must be able to demonstrate the aptitude to study at

The 1 year full time training course is provided by Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with the University of Manchester and trainees will study in person for one or two days per week. The rest of the working week will be based in-service using the skills gained during the training.

Trainee CYWPs are paid on NHS Agenda For Change pay band 4 (or equivalent).

This is a joint recruitment and selection process between Invictus Wellbeing and the University of Manchester, and representative children & young people.

If shortlisted for interview, candidates will be asked to submit a short written assignment to confirm their academic suitability for the training.

Children & young people have told us they want to be supported by staff who can identify with them, who have empathetic skills, who listen, and who involve them in decisions about their care. Young people also felt the mental health workforce should be representative of the population in terms of ethnicity, gender, disability, sexuality, and lived experience (i.e. service users or member of a vulnerable group).
