Job Overview
We are seeking a proud and capable AM Shift Manager to join our management team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the smooth functioning of drivers routes and warehouse process during the morning plans and into the daytime running, ensuring safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement. Your leadership will drive team performance, optimise processes, and uphold our commitment to exceptional service and sustaining our positive in depot culture.
Key Objectives
- Have complete oversight of the operation, ensuring issues are identified early and dealt with before they impact service.
- Lead, support and develop the drivers and warehouse team, ensuring they understand what is expected of them, communicate effectively and consistently work to the standards required by the business.
- Support employee performance through regular coaching, recognition, constructive feedback and timely management of attendance, conduct and performance issues.
- Communicate proactively with the Depot Manager, fellow Shift Manager, Customer Services team, drivers and the wider business, ensuring information is shared early and accurately.
- Plan, organise and coordinate the daily operation to achieve the highest possible levels of service, productivity and operational efficiency whilst making the best possible use of available resources.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, vehicle presentation, operational compliance and health and safety throughout your shift, leading by example at all times.
- Respond decisively to operational issues including vehicle breakdowns, accidents, staffing shortages, service failures and customer issues, ensuring problems are resolved quickly whilst minimising disruption to the operation.
- Continually look for opportunities to improve the operation by reducing waste, improving productivity, strengthening team performance and preventing avoidable problems from recurring.
- Lead by example. Your primary responsibility is to lead and manage the operation. However, there will be occasions where unforeseen operational demands require additional support. Once all reasonable operational and management solutions have been exhausted, be prepared to roll your sleeves up and personally support the operation to protect service, support the team and ensure our customers continue to receive the service they expect. Shift Specific Responsibilities
- Plan delivery and collection routes using the most efficient and cost-effective approach based on forecast parcel volumes.
- Lead the inbound parcel sort, ensuring freight is unloaded, sorted accurately and made available for loading as quickly as possible.
- Lead the warehouse team and delivery drivers to achieve safe, accurate and efficient vehicle loading, supporting early driver departure times.
- Check shortages, routing exceptions and delivery allocations to ensure every planned parcel leaves the depot.
- Support drivers throughout the day, maintaining regular communication and helping resolve operational issues before they impact service.
- Respond to vehicle breakdowns, accidents, staffing shortages and other operational issues, implementing contingency plans where required.
- Communicate proactively with Customer Services, the PM Shift Manager and the Depot Manager, ensuring operational information is shared early and accurately.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, health and safety, vehicle presentation and operational compliance throughout the shift.
- Complete all operational administration and network communication accurately and in a timely manner.
- Leave the afternoon operation organised, informed and in the best possible position to succeed.
Working Hours
Monday - Friday 05:00 - 15:00
Alternate Saturdays 06:00 - 14:00
