Temporary School Caretaker (Long-Term Supply)

Location: Sunderland
Contract Type: Temporary Ongoing / Short-Term Supply
Salary: £16.73 - £19 Depending on experience

Start Date: Immediately

Overview

We are currently seeking a reliable, proactive, and hardworking School Caretaker to support schools across Stoke-on-Trent on a temporary ongoing and short-term supply basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced caretaker, site assistant, or facilities professional looking for flexible work within an education environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, secure, and welcoming school environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Opening and locking the school premises daily
Carrying out basic maintenance, repairs, and DIY tasks
Ensuring the school site is clean, safe, and well-maintained
Conducting health & safety checks and reporting hazards
Managing site security and monitoring visitors/contractors
Setting up rooms and equipment for school events and activities
Supporting fire safety procedures and emergency evacuations
Liaising with contractors and external service providers
Assisting with moving furniture and deliveries where required
Monitoring heating, lighting, and general site facilities
Completing maintenance logs and site records accurately
Supporting the school leadership team with general site duties

Requirements

Previous experience as a caretaker, site supervisor, maintenance assistant, or facilities operative
Experience working within a school or education setting is desirable
Basic maintenance and DIY skills
Good understanding of health & safety procedures
Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
Reliable, punctual, and professional approach
Strong communication and organisational skills
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable (or willingness to obtain one)
