We are currently looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Land & Planning Team team in the position of Company Geologist.
The Company Geologist will work within the Land & Mineral Resources Department to support the safe, compliant and commercially effective supply of raw materials to the company’s production facilities.
The role combines geological, geotechnical, quarry design, stockpile design/control and reserve governance responsibilities, with a particular focus on maintaining raw material consistency, quarry regulatory compliance, contractor performance and long-term mineral supply resilience.
Your duties would include but not limited to the following:
Quarry Design, Stockpile Control & Earthmoving Support
- Plan, schedule and deliver quarry development, excavation and stockpile design documents to support day-to-day production, stockpiling, extraction sequencing and raw material blending requirements,
- Coordinate with operations, Clay Technical, Quality Assurance, contractors, surveyors and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure designs, stockpile protocols, sign-offs and extraction sequences are understood, implemented and documented,
- Medium and long-term extraction design and modelling to inform strategy & financial planning,
- Support earthmoving campaigns, including design issue, tender/contract support, cost tracking, contractor performance review, commercial alignment and compliance with approved design documentation,
- Verify contractor volumetrics, survey outputs, design conformance and bill-of-quantity measurements so that actual quantities are accurately assessed, invoiced and approved by site leadership
Geotechnical Compliance, Support & Risk Management
- Undertake Regulation 32 geotechnical appraisals, site inspections, design checks and supporting documentation in accordance with the Quarry Regulations 1999 and the company’s quarry compliance systems,
- Coordinate external geotechnical specialists in the delivery of Regulation 33 geotechnical assessments, management summary reports, reports on departure and associated action close-out, undertaking internal assessment and stability review where competent and appropriate,
- Manage and improve the company’s geotechnical compliance systems, including inspection records, audit trails, action tracking, document control and relevant IT or Geonet development requirements,
- Work in an advisory capacity with the operational departments in support of compliance with the Quarry Regulation 1999 and health and safety legislation, including supporting the ongoing review of Excavation & Tip Rules and where appropriate, support geotechnical auditing.
- From time to time, advise and/or review relevant geotechnical/quarry company policy so that it remains up-to-date and reflective of ongoing corporate practices.
Mineral Resources
- Undertake PERC-standard reserve and resource assessments for company mineral reserves and resources, including geological modelling, quarry design reconciliation, volumetric analysis and appropriate supporting records,
- Maintain ongoing reserve monitoring, formal annual publication inputs and liaison with finance, external auditors and company accountants as required,
- Support site finding, landbank strategy, greenfield and existing asset investigation, drilling scope development and future resource planning across the mineral estate
Surveying & Policy
- Specify, procure and manage survey requirements, including drone, LSS, CAD, PDF and other survey outputs, to support stockpile design documents, quarry designs, volumetrics, contractor payments and reserve/resource reporting,
- Coordinate survey data, quarry models, design records, audit trails and supporting documentation for each quarry, campaign and stockpiling protocol, ensuring records are retained and accessible,
- Carry out royalty calculations (through quarry design) for any leasehold mineral arrangements
About You:
- Undergraduate level Geology or Level 5 or higher Minerals / Geology or Geoscience / Earth science-based qualification,
- Chartered Geologist or advancing toward chartership status,
- Fully competent at geological modelling & designing (LSS or similar),
- Competent knowledge and practical experience within the quarrying, industrial minerals or heavy construction materials sector,
- Solid appreciation of H&S and risk assessments (especially relevant to quarrying sector), with IOSH or NEBOSH certification preferred,
- Good organisational, communication and project management skills,
- CAD, LSS, survey data and design documentation capability, including the ability to interpret and manage drone, survey and model outputs,
- Geotechnical, Regulation 32, Regulation 33 Quarry Regulations 1999 experience, or attainment required as part of the role,
- Strong systems and IT literacy and strong presentation skills,
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the company’s quarry, factory, land and mineral estate as required, subject to the company’s expenses policy.
